Injured Dog Friendly accommodation in the Isle of Wight

Post by Jules&Nick Mon Aug 12 2013, 16:04

Hi there

Would anyone know of any dog friendly accommodation in the Isle of Wight?

We have a wedding to go to, so will be taking a friend or the Mother in Law with us as well to 'dog-sit' while we are at the wedding for a few hours, but need somewhere thats within reason, not £300 for two night for example!

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks

Jx:)

Hi Jules,

Grange farm,Grange Chine,Brighstone Bay,Isle Of Wight PO30 4DA-contact no:01983 740296,it has Holiday barns, static caravans and a large camping area, dogs are allowed in one of the barns and two of the caravans and obviously on the camping area, normal rules apply about cleaning up after them and on lead at all times.
Brighstone is on the west coast of the island and the site is right by the beach,we have walked sasha on the beach many times and goes on for miles,10 minutes walk from the site is the village of Brighstone and has a couple of shops,a tea room and a couple of pubs, also has a forest so you can do beach walking or forest.

The other site that sounds ok is Thorness Bay which also has lodges, villas and caravans, certain dogs were not allowed but staffords were not on the list, might be worth mentioning thou their contact no:08081802767,looking at the site i think it looks a lot more commercial, more for the kids to do,but proberbly more expensive!

Hope this helps.

As a side issue, which ferry route are you taking?
If poss go via portsmouth with Wightlink (they also do the Lymington route). They allow dogs inside up on the upper passenger lounge and out on the outside deck area.
Red Funnel from Southampton are really dog unfriendly and insist dogs either stay alone in the car on the car deck (which is over an hour and no access to them and can be quite scary is the dogs are nervous) or up upon the open top deck in a what is usually a fairly grotty "shelter".

I've had many a run in with Red Funel over the yaers and would now sooner travel an extra half hour by road to go via Portsmouth.

Sorry, although my family are from the Island I can't actually reccomend anywhere to stay, as we stay with them.

as woody just advised, check the ferrys out.depending what time of year you come over here will effect how much you pay on the ferry.this time of year certain times of day you will pay stupid amounts,if you go on-line to the wight link site and the Red Funel site you can put dates and times of travel and it will give you a price, some times just changing the time will make a big difference in price,it is a lovely place to live but the ferry prices are a pain in the back side.
