Advice on starving please......
..................Ok I have been through everything with Moo and her toilets and she always had runny poo's. After test after test, foods after foods she is still a runny dog and I'm at my wits end now. She can now control it, that its always outside (live in a flat so its been tough) but for the past week after a year of improvment she is passing poo like water again. What to do?? Worried after today cause she didn't make her usual poo places and it was higly embarresing cause you can't clear it up.
Would it be an idea to starve her tomorrow?? Otherwise any other suggestions?? She has been tested for everything (poor thing) I just don't know what else to try now! Any input, I thank you in advanced x

Ahhh poor thing.. I dont know what to tell you but i can advise you to carry a bottle of water and then you can pour the water onto the runny poo.. that is better than leaving it i guess.
Hope she is feeling better soon x

Re: Advice on starving please......
My mum has a simular problem with her GSD, he couldn't have a week without having it runny at least once. She has been to the vet and they recommended a food which has sorted it. I will text her later and find out what food it is.
I will suggest the same as I suggested to her though and that is try raw. You will be suprised the amount of dogs problems that have been sorted straight away after changing to raw. It will cost about the same if not less what your paying now, but you will need a freezer just for moo

Re: Advice on starving please......
Billys poo is hard if he had a lot of chicken mince, because of the bones that are in there, but if he just has meat, especially red meat then his is runny as well. So maybe some bones might be the answer

Re: Advice on starving please......
Thanks all, the idea of feeding raw is great but I haven't the space for an extra freezer, and I don't have a butchers near me just a sainsburys express which is pants for even my food lol!!
Bones I could try but what do recommend and Blue if you could ask that would be great. She's been on a recovery diet since I've had her and it has helped massivly but now doesn't seem too.
I haven't starved her today as was waiting to see what people thought. Again thanks all x

Re: Advice on starving please......
Hi Janey, we feed raw and I live in a tiny one bed flat. It is do-able you just need to prepare a couple of days in advance. I keep todays and tommorows food for my girls i n the fridge. For example one day a box of chicken wings goes between the two as one meal and then the next day they will have lamb spines of something similar (which I get from my local morrisons.) I dont have an extra fridge eaither but it does mean more trips to the shop to keep their food fresh. I work full time aswell so its a bit of a hassle, but at least I know Im doing right by the dog.
Just out of interest try some raw chicken and see what shes like the next day, my girls find it easy to digest and it firms up their poos as do the lamb bones. Also as Blue said that chicken pet mince you can get might be good as it contain ground down bones.

Re: Advice on starving please......
Dempsey's always had a sensitive stomach. Feeding raw has certainly helped, but only after I realised that he is chicken intolerant. He can't eat chicken in any form at all!
I know that some of the dry food manufacturers do food for sensitive stomachs, have you tried any of them?
If it's just an 'upset' then starving for a day is a good idea, and if you don't want her to feel hungry try some arrowroot.

Cheers Caryll, yer she is on a sensitivity diet already which has mayjorly helped but her poo's are like passing water and sometimes she can have up to 7 a day!! Sorry to be explicit lol!
I think I will try starving her, not sure what good it will do, I'll just make sure I'm at work so I don't see the sad eyes!

Re: Advice on starving please......
I don't get any meat from the supermarket. I get it online from
http://www.landywoods.co.uk/price_list.html
Costs me £35 and that will fill a medium freezer and last about 5-6 weeks.
Just texted my mum for you so hopefully I will have the name of the food she's feeding her GSD soon

Re: Advice on starving please......
She has just texted this.
Dog food expensive, tell them 2 go online croft dog foods. Holistic lame & rice give it until runs stop then duck meal. all info on web. Also you can get hills recovery tin food quick results & then i give him hills prescription id meat just add quarter tin to the duck meal.
That makes no sense to me Did it make any for you?

Yes I think!! But thats very similar to what she is on. She's fed chicken and rice (although you can get lamb) and its a recovery diet food for sensitivity already, tell MummyBlue I said thank you and am looking up Croft food!!

Re: Advice on starving please......
Aw poor Moo. I'd keep her on boiled chicken and rice for a few days and maybe try a different vet for another opinion. I hope she gets better soon. Big hugs from me and charlie x

Re: Advice on starving please......
If shes on a sensitivity diet, and is still having frequent diarrhea then I would be looking at changing the food. Especially with summer coming up when dehydration can be an issue. as caryll said chicken is usually easiest to digest -unless they have an allergy to it. Sounds like Moo definately isn't getting n with that food, I personally would say the only thing you can do is experiment with different food. If shes been on this diet for a while and diarrhea is the norm then you need to try something else.

Re: Advice on starving please......
Yes again thanks Blue and Lc but my god it isn't cheap!!! Changing her food is the only I can do but its gonna take some reaserch. When I first rescued her she had been on Bakers, she started to have bouts of diarea overnight which was horriable and tiring. I had to lock her in the bathroom in the end cause at least I could clean it up, poor girl. I had her health tested at the vets and all was clear. I tried a few different foods until the one she is on which has been the only one too help, this is why I am so dubious to switch it again, she seems to have got used to it almost and is reverting back, but what you said only reliterates what I think. So thank you all and her food will be being changed after a lot of research!!

Re: Advice on starving please......
Janey have you tried her on a fish diet Milly seems to be doing really well this week on her's and she had a sensative stomach and obv ith scratching thing. She is on vet dietry purina fish and i mix in either tuna, salmon, etc and she is loving it. Plus she has not treats for 8 weeks which is killing me not giving her a treat but I can see the improvement and that stops me.

Re: Advice on starving please......
Thanks Tracie, I'm definatly going to avoid Cicken, its not the first time I've heard a dog being intolerant to it, so fish is definatly my next route I think. She doesn't get treats either, well not very often anyway. I'll be doing some reaserch, thank you x
