Know there are some very strong views on neutering on this forum - but as a previous employee of Bristol Dogs Home and seeing the out of control over population of Staff's first hand, I really think if this works, it would be great. However, the reasoning behind people breeding their dogs is generally through greed, so, alas, it may not make much of a difference at all. But if the offer is there, hopefully some will take it!

Re: Staffordshire Bull Terrier neutering Bristol
I'm actually down in Devon now hun working for Little Valley, all working dogs here, barely see any bull breeds! But there's a new manager at Bristol that is really pushing to help get the staffy problem they have there sorted out - sure she'd love any help she can get

Re: Staffordshire Bull Terrier neutering Bristol
Could you pass details on to Steve for the new manager? Then he can email it to me, I would be happy to help in any way I can!

Her name is Jodie. Lee is the new deputy manager and Helen is the behaviourist there. Only have direct contact for Helen but depending on what you wanted to do to help you could contact the media/fundraising/awareness team who I could get direct contact for also. Otherwise just give them a call and ask to speak to Jodie about the work that they're doing with bull breeds and what you could do to help

Re: Staffordshire Bull Terrier neutering Bristol
I've nothing against the scheme as long as it isn't pushing for early neutering.
I still think (as Steve says) that it won't stop the rescue problem because the bad owners won't bother & will still breed willy nilly. It isn't the answer to the overcrowding of the rescue centres with staffords.
It might help a few low income owners though.

have to agree with Caryll! It will help those who truly need the help in paying for neutering, but those who will breed and cause the problems will carry on doing so regardless!

Completely agree, but as far as I'm aware people are taking to it and even if it stops a select few from breeding that's still lots and lots of puppies not looking for homes!

Re: Staffordshire Bull Terrier neutering Bristol
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just don't think it'll be any help with the rescue problems. Responsible owners either don't breed, or make sure that they have really good, forever homes for the pups to go to.
The irresponsible ones just won't bother.
