I for one am disgusted and appalled by this. For anyone not privvy to the tennessee walking horse and "soaring" basically let me put it this way:

They cover the horses legs and hooves in acid to burn them, they then attach heavy chains which are sometimes covered in an irritant, to the legs. They then apply more irritants and acids to the hoof and bandage it up, to act as a catalyst..heating the irritants to have more effect. This is all in aid of making this horse "soar." It is supposed to look elegant and high class. The reason the horse lifts its legs so much is due to unspeakable pain. It is extremely popular in Tennessee. Extremely!

If you want you can watch this video, showing the processes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkyC1Fq6Msg

Budweisers owner is said to be sponsoring this sport: http://www.chattanoogan.com/2013/8/5/256317/Roy-Exum-The-Budweiser-Clydesdales.aspx

As Hayley knows, I have been a lifelong horsey person, although not so much recently.

I always knew about Tennessee Walking Horses and thought they looked beautiful (although I always suspected that their tail carriage was the result of nicking), but always assumed that their gait was natural, like our hackney horses of old. This was obviously long before the internet, and so I never knew very much about them.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by the links Hayley posted.

as for our hackneys, they get the weighted boot treatment but if their horse showed the pain and awkward gait of the TWH they would be asked to leave the ring.
