And here was I thinking that bear baiting went out with the dark ages.
I feel absolutely sick.

I imagine they'll try to distance themselves from what their 'operatives' are doing in far flung places.
It won't wash! I, for one, will never touch a Mars product again if I can help it!!!

I couldn't bring myself to watch the video, I just hate any kind of animal abuse. I will also be avoiding Mars products

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
you cant trust anyone, and at the end of the day pet food companies are not making food for the happiness of pets, its for money. We all know what goes into the pet food and where it comes from and how it is treated, so you can't pretend they have animal welfare at the forefront. I'm totally un-shocked by this.

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
Whether shocked or not, it's still something that shouldn't be happening & everybody with a concience should be emailing Mars to ask for their comments.
If enough people complain about it, they'll be forced to stop it.

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
It doesn't matter if animal welfare isn't their key motivation; that's absolutely no excuse for this. Many pet food manufacturers favour their business over the welfare of the animals eating the food, but they don't go so far as to support direct cruelty and torture of animals. Personally, I'm shocked at this; besides the blood sports, the sheer arrogance of this company believing that they could go unnoticed and not arouse anger and surprise.

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
It could more likely be a similar thing to heinnikin, cause i dont think a huge company would be that stupid. or at least that is what they will say

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
if you read the 3 other stories at the bottom of the first report they are indeed going to Heineken route and saying the trophy's and stand were for a dog show not for bear bating but will be looking into the matter of Ukrainian employees supporting the sport .im with hayley in the matter of not being totally shocked by this as iv always known pedigree foods were crap for years and all about money not the love of animals that keep them going .
what i didnt know was pedigree mars (thomas)owned royal canine which a lot of vets are using for there vets ranges

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
If the public know about it, the company would have known about it before, same with the last one. Annoys me when they try to hide behind smoke screens and excuses.

Yes, their food is crap, but that doesn't mean that they should be involved in cruel 'sports'.
And if they weren't aware of what was was going on (yeah, right) then they should have been! Ignorance is no defence.

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
Mars is a very secretive company (or it was when I last had dealings with it).
I used to work putting processing and packaging machines into companies (food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals etc) and have been welcomed into and been all over many, many manufacturing companies in England, Ireland and Wales.
Except Mars. Not allowed into the factory.

Re: Royal Canin / Mars support Bear Baiting!
No, definitely not welcoming Warren.
They had to let our engineers in to install the machinery (Slough), but when there was a problem they wanted resolved I wasn't allowed into the factory to see the problem but had to discuss it in the foyer.
Never known anything like it - one weird company.
