Re: Lolas frist season
Why do you want to get her done before her first season?
How old is she now?

All bitches are different. The first season can be anything from 4 months to a year.

Re: Lolas frist season
I think it's best to wait until they've had at least one season preferably two. My sister's vet advised her to get Grace done before she had a season and she suffers with bladder problems which we believe may be linked to that

I'm confused - in the first quote you say she'll be 5 1/2 months when she's done, and in the 2nd quote you say you haven't booked her in.

My advice would be to let her have a season and go to the wedding. Health-wise, it's a much better option.

Re: Lolas frist season
If she's about 4 months now, then she could theoretically come into season any time now, although the average is around 6 months.
If you can't afford it at the moment, then why not wait until after her first season & get her done then?

Re: Lolas frist season
Than after the first season (whenever that is) you have to wait 3months after so its done between seasons Xx

Yes that's what the vets told me because they can produce milk in that time.

Re: Lolas frist season
I appreciate that you want to do your best for Lola but honestly, a season is not THAT much agony for her
I truly believe that a bitch should not be spayed until at least after her first season, when she is at most half-way mature.
At 5 1/2 months old, Lola is still a baby puppy and should allowed some growing room before she is spayed.

No, Janey, he's referring to the age he intends to get her done, not the advice about waiting.

Re: Lolas frist season
My vet advised to allow one season then at least 8weeks after before spaying.

Re: Lolas frist season
Unfortunately I cannot comment here from experience only from reading - but please do consider the option of letting your girl have her first season before having her spayed, there are many health benefits to waiting some of which have been mentioned. Also do discuss it with your vet so you can make a good informed decision for your dog.

Re: Lolas frist season
I'd always advise, wherever possible, to wait for full mental & physical maturity. For a Stafford that's about 2 years old.

Re: Lolas frist season
My vet adises before the first season , I chose to take the advice of my learned friends on here , Tilly was neutered 3 months after her 2nd season and was late with her first season at about 10 months so around the age of 19 months , I'm really pleased I did wait as she is a beautiful well balanced dog with no problems at all that we are aware of . Sure she looked uncomfortable on her first season and there was a bit of mess ( many more cuddles ) on her 2nd season she was even more peculiar and picked up a small water infection . But on balance I am 100% certain we did the right thing for her
