No of feeds?
Hi
When we got cooper at 8 weeks he was on three meals a day.
I changed him to four smaller meals but lately, since changing to wainwrights (and occasionally before t change) he is not wanting his last meal of the day
He gets:
Breakfast 9am 1/8th nature diet
One handful wainwrights puppy mix
He eats it all and usually looks like he could have more but I think the mix fills them up once in the belly as he is full until lunch
Lunch 12-30
1/8th nature diet
One handful wainwrights puppy mix
Again finishes it
Afternoon 3.30
1/8th nature diet
One handful wainwrights puppy mix
Again finishes it
Dinner
Put the same out but like tonight only takes a few mouthfuls on coaching
Do you think it's ok to give slightly bigger portions and only do three times a day?
He's supposed to be on 400g o wainwrights if it were mix only which is about three handfuls four times a day
But we do half a pack o nature diet per day
He's drinking plenty o water, toilet is healthy at 4-5 per day and any advice would be appreciated
Apologies for any typos as on phone
Lesley

Re: No of feeds?
at his age he should really be on 4 meals a day
The general guide is
4 meals up to 12 weeks
3 meals from 12 weeks to 6 months
2 meals from 6 to 10 months and THEN down to 1 meal IF thats what you want to do, otherwise from 6 months old 2 meals for life.
I personally would continue to offer the 4th meal until he's a little older, and then down to 3
Also going 4-5 times a day seems a little to many for my liking, you could try reducing the amounts he's fed a little and see if that encourages him to eat the 4 th meal

Re: No of feeds?
He's 12 and a Half weeks so does that not put him in the three meals category? I'm confused
We did reduce the portions thas why im asking from two handfuls per meal to one handful, still keeps him well under the daily allowance but lately not wanting that last meal
Perhaps he's telling me himself he's ready for three meals?

Re: No of feeds?
Sorry i worked him out at 11 weeks my bad!
Yes well i'd put him down to 3 meals then
Well keep an eye on his weight, but 4-5 times is a little excessive so see how he goes on 3 meals

Re: No of feeds?
Yes, 3 meals a day's fine at his age. On a decent food & 3 meals a day he'll probably poop less!
