early walks? Empty early walks?

Post by asa-james Thu Jul 18 2013, 21:33

i mean REALLY early, thinking of going for a few hours walk in the peak district this weekend, but with the temps as high as they are during the day i was going to get to the start and walk from 5am, the route i have planned is a few hours at most, so should be back in the car and heading home for 9am latest. but seing as i'm never up this early, what are the temps like at that time? is it cool enough for a dog to comfortably and safely walk? i know she can do the distance, and will have plenty of water with me, just dont want to be putting her in any obvious danger regarding the heat.

any input greatly appreciated

At 9AM, it won't be at the hottest part of the day. It will probably be starting to get a little hotter at that time, but if that's on the way home, it should be fine. I'd take some water along though, just to be sure. Smile

The further north you go, the lower the general temperatures. When I'm camping in Yorkshire the mornings are very comfortable, so I'd imagine it'll be the same in the Peak District. Just take it easy & try to find a bit of shade wherever possible just in case.

You might want to take a towel with you so that you can soak it in a stream & get Lola nice & damp (belly, head, ears & paws) if it starts to get a bit hot.

Sounds great, enjoy it, we've just bought a very cheap camping shower so we can cool darcy down on walks & then rub her down with a Shammy leather, helps keep her cool Smile

Hubby and me used to do camping holidays in the Peak District too, stunning scenery. There should be plenty of shaded areas for you and Lola Asa plus that early in the morning should be cooler too.

One thing to consider though is the humidity level at that time of day which is usually higher than later in the day strangely. Just check your local weather forecast before you set off.

The weather for Glossop is in the link below, the humidity levels is around 80% at 6 am, which is quite high. If you just hover over the temperature for each day it will give you more information.
