... to clean out the freezer so that I can make Greek Pie and store it in there until it gets eaten!    

I love it, but it's a big pie so I can't eat it all by myself before it goes stale. If enough people gang up on her, maybe she'll even be nice enough to force the family to help me eat it?

There's that ice remover that I bought down the side of the fridge/freezer - if you want to have a go at the bottom one, you're most welcome!!!!!

Aww no Eleanor it's not sad, cooking is very therapeutic once it's open boil the kettle & fill bowls with the boiling water and stand them in the freezer it'll help it to defrost quicker

What kind of Greek Pie is it Eleanor? Im Greek, I think I need to make some greek food soon, I miss it, don't it enough!

Eleanor cook a huge Greek pie and we will all come round and help you eat it no need for the freezer    

Bottom freezer is stubborn and still won't open, despite a huge load of anti-freeze and a hairdryer. :PThat one will be tackled next week.

Working on the top freezer now.    It's losing the fight.

Filo pastry, filled with feta cheese, spinach, sundried tomatoes and pine nuts. I'll probably substitute the feta for a lower fat cheese this time though.

The nuts are actually really nice! They add texture, rather than flavour. I'll probably leave them out this time anyway, as they're expensive.

Finished most of the freezer now! Took all morning and a couple of hours into the afternoon, but now we have access to three compartments!

I managed to burn my hand on the side of the freezer though.   I forgot I'd had the hairdryer pointed in that direction, so it was really hot. Put my hand straight down on the ice though, so it isn't too bad.

I can't stand nuts they are vile creatures

Good to hear that some of your freezer is unfrozen - well done! I really must do mine - one day :-< 

The pie sounds great, and the pine nuts are a great addition. I haven't eaten any for ages though because I read somewhere that some pine nuts can cause a metallic taste in the mouth that takes weeks and weeks to go away, so now I'm scared of them!  

The freezer is now happy! Unfortunately, the metal is still hot around the edges by the seal. Taking a while to cool down.

Never heard that about pine nuts before! Yuck!

Well I read it in the Daily Mail, so it must be true!  

Apparently it only applied to pine nuts from a particular country - trouble is, I can't remember what the country was! Doh.

I've never had a problem with them, but look at it this way: bad taste in your mouth = a two week diet with nothing but salad and water!

Working on the freezer again today! Managed to get rid of every last bit of ice on all shelves but the upper part of the top compartment! Can't get the hairdryer in there, so it's taking a while.

Wahooooo! Finally got the last compartment out!

There's a massive block of ice stuck to the top of the freezer. No wonder the last compartment was the toughest to get out.

   Woo! Must have been one hell of a job!

It was!  I kept getting hit by huge chunks of ice! I love finishing a tough job though. Lovely satisfaction!

Phew! just read all through this Eleanor I am glad you have finished the job. I wasn't going to tell Caryll what to do either!

Hardest part is yet to come. The bottom freezer is so much worse - there's a solid layer of ice against the door, so we can't even open it.

Get the hairdryer on it!

I attacked it for over an hour with the hairdryer on Wednesday  Used de-icer around the seal as well, but the door still wouldn't budge. We're going to switch the whole thing off and wait for it to thaw, I think.

I blame this weather - it's only been in the last couple of weeks that my freezer has forgotten it's supposed to self de-icing.
