foods to gain weight
Hey all.
im looking for food ideas to make my girls gain weight. They are currently on dry kibble with gravy and rice along with treats and raw meat bones from the butchers weekly. They just dont seem to gain weight well and look very small for their age. See my other post '20 month old bitches so SMALL' for photos.
thanks in advance!

Re: foods to gain weight
They look fine to me. They are only 20months and have at least another year of growing. The size has more to do with DNA than food. One food that is meant to be good for bulking is raw tripe

I wouldn't worry to much about it to be honest. They may just be petite build wise.

Thanks. I did try tripe but they wouldnt eat it. Neither would i with the smell of it!
do you think i am worrying too much over their size? I would say their weight is fine but they need to gain more and maintain it as their frame is so small and 'skinny' where any other staffie i have seen at their age is double the size of them - literally.

Re: foods to gain weight
you are definitely worrying over nothing, they are a good weight for staffy bitches, far to many dogs are over standard as it is!

Your dogs look a fine weight, they will start filling out soon if they get the right exercise. Food wont dictate that though.

By all means, check out some foods with good quality ingredients, but try not to worry about their weight. Staffy bitches can be anything from 11 kg - 15 kg and they both look very healthy and happy. They'll probably fill out some more in the next six months anyway.

Ella's definitely right! A lot of stafford bitches you see today look far too 'doggy' and nowhere near feminine enough! From the pics in your other thread, they look about perfect so don't worry about them bulking up. They'll get their proper size soon enough.
One think I would say, though, is cut out the gravy & rice! If you're feeding a good dry food (I know you're about to change over) then nothing else is necessary & rice has virtually no nutritional value whatsoever.
If you want to make the dry food more interesting, try adding a raw egg or a couple of sardines in oil (or tomato sauce), just to tempt their palate!
