My dad says them adds should have there own channel then if you want to watch you can and if you don't, then you don't, they bombard us with them at Christmas when people are struggling enough
It is awful and their living conditions are or can be appalling but we can only help once our own problems have been sorted

That's why I only give to CAFOD. It's run mainly by volunteers, so the vast majority of the money goes where it's needed, with no government middle-men!

It is a very big guilt trip, and the way they stop you in shopping centres, they basically drag you into it, I do feel for them and I try to give if I can, but on my own accord, when I can, also, most of these charity places have directors and ceos that earn hundreds of thousands of dollars or pounds a year....so its only a charity to the people working there really.

Yeah it annoys me too, TV adds and people in town and shops. I give money to charities of my choice every month, you can't give to them all !!

I despise tin rattlers , have to be selective anyway these days as there are so many on the lug, so we stick to Cancer , Heart Research , all the forces charities , Mountain Rescue , Air Ambulance and Dogs . If anyone is sitting quietly they might et lucky , rattle your tin at me and you have no chance. I'm also a big believer in Charity begins at home so not a donator for the africa appeals , red cross etc

I always press the mute button when the ads come on TV, if I have to watch I will not listen

sky+ pause, fast forward.
i get the guys in the street on my lunch break as i head to the shop, i've found that being covered in dust and muck, with a face like thunder tends to get you ignored by these guys.
did you also know that you only have to tell them "no" once and they HAVE to leave you alone now?
(but i'm not heartless, research into cancer and stillbirths are top of my list)

Re: anybody sick of theae donation ads?
The guilt overload is huge with these ads, which are designed to tug at our heartstrings and consciences. Yes they are all good causes, but ...
Someone I know very well has recently been taken on as a publicist/market researcher for a very large and well-known charity. Her heart is in it, she'll do a good job I'm sure BUT .... as well as a very reasonable salary (we all have to live) she has been showered with all the latest electronic goodies to assist her in her work.
I read a long time ago that 95% of contributions to Oxfam went on overheads - I've got a feeling that is par for the course.
Isn't it horrible to be so cynical
