park, getting on
Hi i have a border collie female 2 years old, last Wednesday i took on a staffy pup 11 months from one of my customers. He was not getting walked and locked in the house for 8 hours every day. Since taking him on hes been fine until i take him to the park with my collie. I throw a frisbee for them but before i throw it the staffy barks like mad jumps up and has even bitten. But theres no marks when he bites i think its out of excitement, I have tried saying no and sit with no joy and i have tried water. Is there anything i can do?? My collie is a little scared of him when were out with him because he snatches the ring off her. When were at home my collie snaps at him a lot when hes trying to play how can i help them to get along?? Stop the woofing??

Is walking them separately a possibility? so you can spend a little one to one time training the staffy?

Hello and welcome to the forum...why dont you come and introduce yourself - https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f7-new-member-introductions
The jumping up and barking will be pure excitement. Staffies are very vocal dogs, good luck stopping it! Cant you take seperate toys out for your dogs? Your collie will get used to Stanley over time, i can imagine he's very flighty compared to your collie.

Yes, I agree the jumping up may well be pure excitement at being out for a walk.
Have a look at the links provided by KIta above which should give you some very good pointers.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Gwen and I! The jumping up is definitely pure excitement and him just being unable to control himself, probably because he hasn't had much training. Gwen is 7 months old and when I throw the ball for her she sometimes loses control and jumps up/nips at me because she is just so excited. I would also suggest walking them separately, if possible, so they can each have some alone time with you and also so you can have some time to do some training with the pup! He is still very young and if you are consistent with training he will improve! Staffies are really smart and very eager to learn! Good luck, keep us updated and feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like along the way!
PS- would love to see some pics of your fur babies!

my dog still jumps up to get anything out of my hands, kind of goes into his own mode where he cant see anything including your hand. good luck and if you switch to throwing small tennis size balls for him i reccomend getting 1 of them sticks which scoops the ball and you can throw it from that instead of him getting your hand.
