how long until bleeding should stop...
Hello everyone,
A couple of days ago i noticed a fare amount of blood coming from my boy zed, but could not find a source any where on him. it continued throughout the day so I took him to the vet. They have said it could be something to do with the urethra. They have given us antibiotics to give him but we have just noticed patches of blood again where he has been sleeping. How long should we give to see if the antibiotics have worked? I have to take a urine sample back to the vet tomorrow but they were pretty vague with how long it could take for the antibiotics etc to start working. He doesnt seem to be in any pain at all, but I am worried it keeps happening. I have never experienced this with any of my other dogs.
Has anyone had a problem like this with there babies before?

How many full days has he had them for? If you're still worried tomorrow you could mention it to them when you drop the sample off. Or maybe give them a call just to clarify?

This is the second full day. It doesn't bleed all the time which is also weird. Yer I will check with the vet again. You can tell he's not 100% because he is being extra sooky. Poor baby

Re: how long until bleeding should stop...
I'm pretty sure it takes 3 or 4 days to see a visible improvement but I may be wrong. It depends on how strong the infection is as to how quickly they take affect. But I think it's 3 or 4 days for them to build up in the system. I'm sure somebody else will be along who knows a bit more

It sounds like a bladder or urethra infection. I honestly don't know hoe quickly the antibiotics should take effect, but may a phone call to your vet would help?

I checked with the vet this morning and apparently you should see improvement straight away and we woke up this morning and there was still a fair amount of blood, so back to the vet we go. They aren't 100% what it is so hopefully after today they know.
Thank you everyone for your help

Re: how long until bleeding should stop...
Ok so took him to the vet and apparently it's not that at all. We are still finding blood, but we now think it could be insect bites or something! We found a couple of small red circles on his back legs while he was fast asleep, can fleas do that or would it be something else?
Thanks everyone

Insect bites wouldn't normally cause that sort of bleeding. Has the vet said what they think it might be?

We went back to the vet this morning and they have now said it is most likelt a skin tumor, he is having an operation today to have it removed and they will send it off to find out if its benign or not. Poor little baby.
