iams or harringtons

Hi I have a fussy 3 yr old staffy..of have numerous allergies where his skin will become itchy and sore...was recommended wainrights but this made little if any improvement...he seems to be ok on the iams and actually eats it rather than turns up his nose..but wondered which was the better food the iams or the harringtons...advice would b appreciated..thanks jo

Hi Jo, I feed Harringtons and Daisy has done well on it but tbh am planning to change when I've used up all I have for something with a higher quality meat content and possibly try wheat free . As far as I'm aware harringtons is better than Iams although I don't really know much about it. But I think wainrights is better than harringtons. There is a website called which dog food where you can compare ingredients, reviews etc.

Ive never known a dog thats so fussy its taken us the best part of 3 years to find a dried food that he will actually eat..but want a food that isnt just full of junk without costin the earth...thank u for ur advice tho and will have a look into that ;-)

Moo did really well on fish4dogs, maybe he might be better on a fish diet..... Xx

Allot of members dogs seem to do better on a fish diet. Have you looked into feeding raw?
There are obviously foods with better ingredients in than others but sometimes it just finding the one thats best for your dog. Like Janey said a fish diet might be worth a shot

Weve tried nearly every brand in pets at home includin the fish ones and hes just not interested...the only one we hadnt tried was the harringtons and heard a few people sayin it was quite a good brand..hes ok on the iams just wondered if it was worth givin the harringtons a try if there would b any benefit from it or should I just keep him on what hes on...so many foods out there its definitely been a headache!!

How is his skin on the Iams?
If it was me and he was doing alright on the Iams and his skin was getting better I would keep him on that rather than changing again and causing more problems. If However his skin problems persist then maybe try another brand to see if that helps. Have you seen a vet to see if it is something else causing the itchy skin

Hes skin is fine as long as we give him no treats scraps etc...we have seen a vet they told us to try piriton which helped ease the scratchin but still had the red blotchy belly :-( we have asked to have him tested but vet told us there was no point until he was at least 5 as their allergies can change..maybe ill stick with the iams at least he'll b a little happier...thanks for the advice just nice to have someone elses opinion every now n then ;-)
