Re: staffy pup
you will not build a dog up to be stocky by what you feed him , you can get him lean and muscly in appearance (ripped) but you will not control whether he has a broader stance or not
Any particular reason you want him like this ?? How does his parents look , this is normally a good indication of how a dog will look when they are mature . My boy is a good mix of halfway between his mum and dad

Re: staffy pup
Staffys have a bad rep as it is, it's not the best idea going round asking how to bulk up your boy.
His looks are mainly determined by his genes from parents, but good diet and proper exercise will get the best out of him, but let him be a pup and grow up properly, and don't force him into doing loads of exercise before his time otherwise it will really affect his joints in later life

Re: staffy pup
high meat content has nothing to do with it, a good quality dry food or raw diet that gives him all the nutrients he needs to grow IS the most important thing

Re: staffy pup
Thanks, but if you want to do it you don't need to want until he 12 months, i put my dogs onto a raw diet at 8 weeks old. Heres some information if your interested
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t14787-raw-diet
Just a pointer a raw diet is not just raw meat, and cannot just be raw meat, it needs to be raw meat, bones and offal

Re: staffy pup
Hi and welcome to the forum from me and Gwen. I would let your pup be a pup and grow before you try to "bulk him up". They go through lots of awkward stages before they really start to fill in and look proportional. You have awhile before this happens since your pup is only 10 weeks old and they don't start to fill in until about a year! I wouldn't worry too much about it right now..in stead focus on making sure he looks healthy and is getting a good diet (whether thats raw or a good dry food), getting the right amount of training/ mental stimulation, and exercise/ walks once he has had all his vaccinations! You want him to be a happy and healthy dog which is much more important than just being "stocky" If you decide you aren't going to do raw here is a link with some good dry foods!

PS- what are you feeding him now??

Re: staffy pup
Hi & welcome from darcy & me, at this age it's all about letting him be a pup & to grow, training him manners and excerciseing him correctly which is 2/3 walks per day (once he's had his vacc's) 5 minutes per month of age. I.e it'll probably 12 weeks when he's aloud out so that will be 2/3 15 minute walks on lead with some off lead play too. Don't over exercise him or you could cause damage in later life, good luck

Re: staffy pup
Your puppy looks stunning. Bulking up is something you wont/shouldnt do. There's alot of growing and developing going on. Basically i would concentrate on socialising and training, yes, feed a good quality food, exercise to the recommended amounts for his age. By the time he's 2-3 years he'll be the size he's meant t be. What I feel is the most important is not painting a picture that the breed have been given today. Stick around here, read up on the suggested reading material, but most importantly enjoy your new friend

Re: staffy pup
Hi & welcome to the forum.
Your pup will be whatever his genes tell him to be. If he's a collie x stafford then he won't be as wide (or 'stocky') as a full stafford would be.
Ella's given some good advice about food & exercise - please don't try & muscle him up before his body is ready for it! Let him enjoy being a puppy through play & positive training. Once he's about a year old you can start to increase his exercise a bit at a time & build up the muscle.

Re: staffy pup
Im sorry but no amount of food or exercise will give you a stocky dog if you think there is collie in it. Collies are one of the leanest dogs.

Re: staffy pup
I will also add that they are one of the most energetic dogs, so if i were you i would also join a collie forum or get advice from someone with collies. They are a lovely dog but probably not a great mix with a staff, who can already be wired. Collies need a looooooooooooot of exercise to keep them sane and a lot of mental stimulation if you want a controlled dog. As im sure you know, collies are herders, and most mixes with them gain this trait, so your boy will most likely want to chase cars and kids, so just be aware of this.

Re: staffy pup
bakers is probably the WORST dog food ever and i would never feed it.
just be sure to change it over gradually to avoid upset (although the most upset to them is usually because they are fed bakers!)

Re: staffy pup
If he needs meat in his diet, use nature diet or natures menu. But if he's on JWB and eats it on its own he doesn't need anything else in it as it's a complete diet.
My pup is 18 weeks and I am feeding a raw diet and she's doing really well on it.
