copied, Watchman IV & Watchman V

Watchman IV was presented to the Regiment as a puppy in August 1998 by the Friends of the Regiment and continues to parade with both the 1st Battalion and the newly formed West Midlands Regiment, participating in the Tercentenary Celebrations in 2005. He was retired on the 4th October 2009 and Watchman V took over duties on October 5th.

There was a post last year about the future of Watchman V being in doubt due ti the disbanding as they are now the Mercian regiment , I know V was doing publicity for RSPCA at one point

Hi everyone , just received this back from the curator of the Staffordshire Regiment Museum

Dear David,

I have been passed your email by the head of Research Jeff Elson.

I believe you are enquiring about the future of Watchman.

Watchman is still being paraded as the mascot for the Staffordshire Regiment. His upkeep in paid for by the Staffordshire Regimental association and he lives with his handler in the family home and is a much loved and looked after pet. The dog handler is currently serving with 4 Mercian, the TA battalion for the Mercian Regiment, so he will often parade with them also.

Once this Watchman retires the future is unknown. Normally a new puppy is donated to the Regiment by Burton Town Hall. Now that the Stafford’s no longer exist in any capacity it is unknown if this will continue. It is hoped it will however, and the associations are still keen to support Watchman for as long as they can.

Hope that helps you.

Kind Regards

Danielle Pritchard BA Pg Dip
