Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Hi guys just a quick question really i've tried searching but i don't think i've found the answer i'm after. Hopefully this isn't a repost!!
I'm wanted to give/try Milo with a Raw treat meal once or twice a week what would people recommend for him? He is only 13 weeks and 14 weeks tomorrow.. so unsure on if there is someone that he shouldn't have or if something will make him ill.
So I guess my question is what shall I give for his first raw meal experience?
Thanks!

I think chicken wings are recommended but you must hold them for him , not a raw feeder myself but hopefully someone else can come along soon and advise

Re: Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Well we went to the butchers this afternoon and spoke to the butcher there was lots of options to choose from. So we decided to get him Beef Bones and that butchers did a thing called a "barf bag" which it's like a sausage with liver kidney lungs and other things but nothing that we couldn't eat never heard of it so if anyone has information on this product?
So we came home and gave him a beef bone and he loved it. We watched him eat it and after 15mins we took it off him and checked teeth and gums to make sure he was ok and continued to let him eat it for another 15 and took it off him.
I'll post pictures later as not on computer.

Re: Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Ello
My dogs get started on a raw diet the day they come home at 8 weeks old and eat everything they do as adults.
If he's never had raw before then chicken IS what is best to start with, yes try chicken wings or a chicken carcass first they are the easier to crunch up and to digest
Other things to try once he's had a few treats are:
lamb spines
lamb/pork ribs
turkey necks
turkey legs
raw whole fish
etc
Don't rush and give everything at once let him get used to each meat and make sure to supervise him when he's eating until he's finished
Also on hot days it's nice to give him, his treat frozen to make him work harder. Oh frozen bones are great for a teething pup!

butchers can be good but be aware, normally the sell 'beef' bones and they give you large marrow or leg bones which should NOT be fed as they are to dense and break teeth.
the barf bag sounds like an offal mix which is good but very rich so feed tiny amounts to start with otherwise you will get bum gravy.
Also you shouldn't feed organs often, in a raw diet organs only make up 10% of their diet with 5% being liver

Re: Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Thanks for all the information Ella it's a big help! The plan isn't to have him on raw but maybe 1 or 2 days during the week he can have a raw meal :)Hopefully you'll be able to tell me if the beef bones we have been given are ok to be eaten as a whole! Here are some pictures of the goods and him eating the bone. He didn't get to eat the whole thing as we took it off him after 30 mins.
Could we give the Barf Mix with some kibble or would you suggest just on its own?
Sorry for all questions lol!

Re: Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Those bones look good to me you might find he can't eat through them all but they aren't large marrow bones
Do watch his poo after the bones and make sure he doesn't seem constipated, if he does just don't let him eat the bone for so long
The barf mix looks good to. Always feed kibble and raw separate as they digest at different rates and like I said only give a very small amount to start with and don't feed it to often

Re: Which Raw Treats For Puppy?
Hi Laura. He was great with the bone. We only let him have it for 30 mins and took it off and checked him teeth and gums and took it off him due to his gums looked a little sore he managed to get quite a bit off it. He took to it straight away really
I'm glad they're not weight bearing bones so he can eat them
Thanks for all your advice Ella you've been a big help!

Excellent I think that will be the next thing to try with Herbie then, he's taken to some raw mince really well so I'm sure he will like a meaty bone as a treat :0) x

Yeah he loved the bone he didn't finish it in the time we allowed him to eat it so he can have it later on today. Take photos when you do give him the bone
