Breedism
I came across my first bit of breedism tonight ... we went to enroll in out local puppy class this evening, I walked into the hall, without molly to find out what the score was. I said to the woman on the table "hi ya I have come to find out about the puppy classes" she looked pleased to see me and started to speak when another older lady comes over and says what puppy have you got, I said a staffy cross.... Well you would have thought I had said the devil dog, every one looks at each other and the second lady says "we have a waiting list for staffs" and then goes on to tell me another place miles away that will take em.
To be honest I was gutted, it has put me in a right bad mood , this place was within walking distance etc and i am trying to sort molly out, this has put me off of these sort of places.

Re: Breedism
If they are that bigotted, would you really want to go there? I know I wouldn't.

To hell with them !!! Molly's far to good for a class like that, tbh, she'll proberly pick up on the vile bad vibe.Barry S wrote:I came across my first bit of breedism tonight ... we went to enroll in out local puppy class this evening, I walked into the hall, without molly to find out what the score was. Re: Breedism
You'll definitely find somwhere better, I did some classes earlier in the year and there was noting like that, everyone was welcomed and they made a real effort with me and Daisy, we really enjoyed going

Re: Breedism
just count yourself lucky you found out before you parted with any cash. now you know its just a few old ladies who "think" they know about dogs.
I dread to think about the advice they give out with an attitude like that.
dont let it get you down, its just not worth it mate. i used to get so angry with peoples attitudes but its a rare event that I say anything back these days. you will meet the "true" dog lovers on your travels and it restores your faith.

Re: Breedism
That is disgusting .. as everyone else has said you wouldnt want to go there anyway with that snobbery.
Molly and yourselves can do so much better with a class that actually understands how lovely staffs are ><

Re: Breedism
Grr people like that! Keep looking! Ask at your vets they should have a book with local trainers details in And where I go.... Staffies get the preferential treatment... and they are top of the classes! Good classes are out there

Re: Breedism
Thank you all, can you believe it. to be honest the reason I am taking molly to such places is because she is a handfull and not a lapdog ... oh well onwards and upwards.

Re: Breedism
It's their loss, find somewhere better.
We took rocky to some training classes a while ago now and they were great with him.
If the place doesn't feel right for whatever reason Molly would pick up on it anyway so you are wise to go elsewhere.

Re: Breedism
That sorta thing really boils my p!ss ... we took Max to the pup class's at our vets when we first got him, and TBH, tho typically boysterous and over confident, he was the life and soul of the group ... he even brought some little toy breed pups from between their owners feet out of their shells a bit and played quite gently with them ..... ignorance is most definately not bliss when it comes to dogs

Re: Breedism
This is awful. My puppy class loved Otis when I took him and he was top in his class so there are good ones out there. Go find a place who will accept you both and prove them wrong

Re: Breedism
Pathetic ignorant snobbery from people who really should know much better. Surely that is part of the point of classes to teach ALL dogs to respect ALL dogs. Thats why we will be taking Sophie along to one later.
What better way to prove that you are a great trainer than to have a dog like that come along to a class and let the others see how they develop. Cant have much condfidence in themselves as a trainer then, can they?
Also if they REALLY have a waiting list for staffies, then why not run an additional class for them - extra money the easy way.
If any "teacher" treated me or my dog like that I would tell them where to get off!
