worried staffy owner
Hi
We have a 2 yr old white staffy and over the last few months we have had her at the vets 3 times with first a rash on her belly so they gave us antibiotics and steroids which helped but within 3 weeks it was back worse than before they thought that she had been in contact with a plant in the bush that a lot of dogs get allergic reaction to it so we kept her out of the bush but yet again it came back this time they thought it was her food so yet more antibiotics and steroids so then we started her on eucanuba veterinary diets dermatosis last week cut out all snacks and treats and now her body is just getting worse with bumps but her belly is clear we are pulling our hair out what to do for the best she doesnt seem unwell or scratching them we have always feed her on eucanuba since havinging her nearly a year ago but since this new food she also seems more hungry I wondered if anyone else has had this problem and could advice anything more to do we just love her to bits and hate seeing her skin like this

Re: worried staffy owner
Aww poor girl My girl has bad skin too, it is horrible.. I feed a raw diet that helps a lot, I give 1 Claratyne tablet a day and use ilium neocort on any rashes or places with little hair or anywhere I see her scratching or biting a lot. Ilium numbs the area so it stops them irritating the area anymore with scratching/biting.. If she does get a nasty rash I use Malaseb antibacterial wash, I don't wash her all over with it I just mix a little with some warm water and use a clean cloth to bathe the area.. I hope some of this may help your girl

Re: worried staffy owner
Try her on a claratyne tab or even some benedryl It should settle her skin down rather quickly then it will just be a matter of finding the best for her long term to control her allergies.. It can be a bit hit and miss and it is heartbreaking seeing them that sore

Poor little girl - bad skin is the worst
Chiquito has bad skin/allergies as well, tried several different types of dry food .. he is now on a raw diet which really seems to be helping. I use apple cider vinegar as a wipe over for his belly/underarms - it helps to reduce yeast in these areas and calendula or green tea infusions - to relieve itchy spots. He gets a full rub all over with oatmeal conditioner two to three times a week - it helps to 'toughen' his skin. I also clean him with a damp cloth every time we go walking, especially his belly, legs and underarms. He has fish or fish oil and egg each week as well to help with dry skin. When the rash has been really bad I give anti-histamine (claratyne).
Hope some of that helps

Re: worried staffy owner
If you are giving the childrens ones give her a whole tab and see if that helps if not I would try Claratyne as it may be stronger..
And believe me you are far from alone with skin problems there are many of us on here

As Kylie said above, you are far from alone
In regards to the claratyne, you can also go to your vet and have them give you a dosage for your girl. It is really expensive to actually buy the anti-histamine from them, however most are happy to provide the correct dosage for the ones you can buy from the chemist.

Aww big hugs for miley >< darcy suffers with allergies too, we use antihistamines & apple cider vinegar too, I rub her down after walks and wash her feet, I hope you manage to get it under control soon as kylie says there is lots of us whose babies suffer from this, hopefully using some of the ideas may help, good luck.

Re: worried staffy owner
Different antihistimines work on different dogs, I would try another if the one you are using is having no effect.
