First time dog owner needs help.
Hey guys.
I have never owned a dog in my life so I'm completely new to this. My friend had a puppy that he was going to take to the pound because nobody else would take him. He is a staffy cross bulldog. He has a beautiful temperament and I couldn't stand the thought of him being put down or being stuck in a cage. So I brought him home to live with me, my partner and my one and a half year old son. (Yay a house full of boys) haha.. He is still very young I'm guessing somewhere between 8-12 weeks. He is very sooky and cries/ barks as soon as he is alone for more then a minute or two. And it's getting to the point I'm worried the neighbours will start to complain. I know he is still very young and there is no way I could get rid of him. I've tried an alarm clock, hot water bottle, toys, playing with him but still as soon as I leave he freaks. I'm just getting really tired juggling my son, the puppy and trying to keep on top of everything else, including toilet training him. Any suggestions would be fantastic.
Thank you heaps.

Re: First time dog owner needs help.
Welcome to the forum!
To start off, well done on trying to help the little guy.
It sounds like he has separation anxiety. It's very common in dogs and can be rectified. It's probably been caused/made worse by his previous owners abandoning him, so it may take a little while to sort it out.
What you could try is gradual desensitisation. Put him in a safe room, with no dangerous objects, and walk out of the room/house. Leave him alone for a minute and then walk back in and give loads of praise. Then you can gradually start to lengthen the time that you leave him alone for. This should hopefully make him see that you leaving doesn't mean he's going to be abandoned.

They are so smart! Gwen learns so quick (when she wants to lol)! But a long with her smartness comes equally ridiculous stubbornness!

Re: First time dog owner needs help.
Welcome, try leaving a worn old jumper to comfy up to when you're not around.. and leave him for short periods of time and increase the amount you're away, so he gets used to you coming back.. It is like taking on another child.. did you think it was gonna be a walk in the park.. He will love you for a lifetime, well done for the rescue.. and don't give up yet.
