My dog has turned into a cow
I think somebody may have posted something similar the other day so sorry to repeat an old topic but Rupert is gorging himself in grass every time we go out. There's a lot of it in his poop. I know this is not necessarily a bad sign but are your dogs doing the same?

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
The grass has grown really quickly these last couple of weeks, and every dog I know including mine can't resist it! I do try to limit his intake because I, like Janey, have vivid memories of pulling it out of the bums of my previous dogs

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
Grass seems to be Shéara's fave food at the moment. We cut the grass today and he went nuts with it, rolling around, picking chunks of the ground ans shaking it about and taking cheeky nibbles when he thought we wernt looking !

But when you do aren't they ever so thankful Ledger loves grass and only the long really thick blades luckily we don't have 'issues' that often

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
Ok - we've established that ALL dogs chomp at the lovely long grass that is springing up faster than we can blink right now.
So far - so normal, weird though it looks to see our doggies tearing into grass as though their lives depended upon it.
What I'd love to know is - WHY? Does anyone have any idea?

I eat the grass at this time of year to see if there is sugar in it so i know when to get the horse off it.

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
Our dogs aren't total carnivores are they!
I remember (now you've reminded me Janey) that as a country child my friends and I used to pull at long grasses and eat the pale bit that pulled out - it was certainly tender and sweet.

Does your horse get laminitis Hayley? Hopefully not, and you are just watching his waistline.

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
spot on mate, while i was researching both sides of my dogs parentage it seems they love seaweed and they also get a fair ammount of greens through eating raw fish and there stomach contents.its the reason i give zinc suppliments as they get bad skin without it, sod it buying a whole salmon for them...they can do with suppliments lolLynda wrote:Our dogs aren't total carnivores are they!

Glad he's not a laminitis sufferer Hayley, it's a horrible ailment.
And you're NOT a fattie!

Re: My dog has turned into a cow
I can't relate to your time-zone and seasonality of sweet tasting grass but your post made me laugh We're heading into Winter here and we've had heaps of rain. We got instant grass in the backyard on the weekend Yeahy!!! SO long mud puddles (it's only taken a year) and our Bella was having a great old time straight into munching the grass - within 2 hours she's had her first grass spew and than proceeded to re-ingest the meal she lost on the grass
Our last Staffy x Beagle used to do this quite a lot - we never worried about it.
