Re: lifting leg to pee
They usually start when they are coming into themselves sexually. They lift their leg to gain the highest point cause another dogs nose will be level with it and more likely to smell it.
So anytime from 8months up

Some male dogs never lift their leg to pee.. Some will start very young, Sorry but that is a question that can only be answered when or if your dog ever does it

This. Oddly enough, our female staffy will occasionally lift her leg to pee! Especially if she's around my english pointer, who wees like a horse except for when he's marking things. It's quite amusing to watch the two of them run around together.

Re: lifting leg to pee
Depends. I get the feeling they learn it from other dogs, because Loki started lifting his leg to pee when he was only three or four months old, I think. It was very soon after the JRT ran over to him, sniffed him, then peed on the fence near us so it just differs dog to dog.

It's a down to the dog thing , but also one of a Daddy's proud moments just like watching a baby take their first steps.
First time I say Tommy do it he would be about 8-9 months , we were walking back from my daughters school together with wife and daughter, I had been working away all week and it was Friday afternoon , I saw and shouted out all beaming and proud , the OH just said oh yes he's done that a few times this week, how could she not tell me and take a video

Re: lifting leg to pee
I think Logan started doing it a lot younger than 8 months tbh.
That said he wasn't a pro at the start, he would lift his leg too high and fall over then there'd be pee everywhere.
A few times he went to pee on a lamp post or tree and lifted the wrong leg to aim

Re: lifting leg to pee
Bacchus was about 6 mths and once he started he had to pee on anything that didn't move. Took a while to get it right though, falling over, peeing on his own legs and tummy etc.

Re: lifting leg to pee
Loki still gets confused now, he'll lift up one leg, then look confused and lift up the other they do make me laugh. Oh, but if he's peeing on the grass, he never lifts his leg up. He stands there like he normally does and just pees becuase...I don't know, he's too busy walking to lift up a leg? Boys

I think Bailey was about 8-10 months when he first done it, although he fell over and I laughed at him and he never done it for a few weeks after
I found that funnier than I should have por Dempsey
