Is it normal?
Is it normal for a staffordshire bull terrier puppy to cry though out the night in his cage?
How long ruthly does it take them to get used to the cage?
He also starts bitting the cage and licking it, could this mean hes teething?

Re: Is it normal?
you have to play the hard game with the crate , try covering it on 3 sides to make it like a den and maybe leave a radio on low or if you can find one a ticking clock, took a good while to get Tommy settled but that was beacause we broke the rules and kept going to him
You could put a stag bar in the crate with him to help with the chewing

It's normal for him to feel a bit lonely for a short while - 2 or 3 nights maybe. You could try leaving a ticking clock near his crate, or even leave a radio on softly for him so that he doesn't feel so alone. But he'll soon settle.
He's biting the crate because he's anxious & hasn't been introduced to it properly. He needs to get used to it being a safe place for him to go to during the day if he's tired, without the door being shut.
He won't start teething until he's about 12 14 weeks old.

Re: Is it normal?
Basically agree with what Dave said, but for the most part, it's a case of making sure he's comfortable and feels safe there, and then...ignoring the crying until he realises there's no point (assuming he doesn't need the toilet or something, obviously). Loki still cries a bit now when he feels like someone needs to be giving him attention just have to not give him what he wants. The biting and licking might be boredom, so the StagBar or a Kong could help.

Re: Is it normal?
Thanks guys, I will start doing what you guys stated above
Whens the best time to training him to sit, and pass paw? & saying nice when he takes his treats etc.
Should it be now or when hes around 12 weeks?
Been teaching him to sit, pressing his back side lightly on to the floor etc.. I know it takes a lot of time and practice but I can't wait till he starts doing it.

Re: Is it normal?
you can start training from the moment he sets foot in the house , they love interaction and you get the rewards as a result

Dave once again thanks a lot!
I've also been giving him treats when ever he runs outside to do his business.

Great stuff , if you can start to master sit and "watch me" it will pay you massive dividends when it comes round to walkies

The sooner the better. For sit, hold a treat above his face and move it back (away from you) so he looks up. Usually they'll sit as their gaze follows the treat. For paw, I just lifted Loki's paw and said "paw," then give him the treat. Took him three days to learn it, he miraculously learnt it when I switched from biscuits to chicken . Can't help on the 'nice' because Loki still bites my fingers off for a treat. I'd work on teaching him 'leave it' and 'drop it' too, very useful during their bitey/chewy phase.

Hold the treat in your fist so that he can't get it & keep saying 'nice' or 'gently' or whatever word you want until he starts to gently nibble your hand. Then you can let him have the treat. They normally catch on quite quickly to that one!
