my very quiet 9 week old staff
Hi all, collected our staff Violet yesterday, shes 9 weeks old and settled in very well, only cryed once in the night ! today she has been playing in the sun but this afternoon she just seems to want to lie down in her bed most of the time. shes eating and drinking ok and comes out for fuss every now and then but it just seems a bit odd that shes not running ,playing, crying and barking ??? her nose is a little dry which i always took as a sign a dog may be a little under the weather ? i'm not new to dog ownership as i grew up with staffs and labradors in the family until i left home in my twenties. Any body got any ideas ?

She's only 9 weeks old, sleeping is pretty normal most of the time. Loki was weird because he never used to sleep very much, but puppies do sleep a LOT during the day, so don't worry. Her nose doesn't have to be wet, it can be dry as long as there's no gunk or anything. If she's eating and drinking OK, she's fine, just a baby.

I'm hazarding a guess, but I'd think that Violet is just a bit discombobulated - she's very young and hasn't had much experience of life and all of a sudden it's just changed. I would recommend that you just take it gently, make her feel at home and used to her new surroundings and new humans and she will soon stop feeling so disorientated. It's good that she is eating and drinking.

Aww I love her name, violet its lovely, It's quite normal for her to sleep lots at first, as long as she's eating, drinking she'll be fine

As said above, pups do sleep an awful lot, and when they first come home with you there is lots of new things to get use to and they can seem a little out of sorts. Sure that Violet will be up and about with lots of energy again shortly

Re: my very quiet 9 week old staff
Hello
Wouldn't worry too much as long as she is eating and drinking plenty, being so young she will sleep a lot. With the warm weather that may be making her feel a little more lethargic also. Hope to see some pictures of her at some point

Re: my very quiet 9 week old staff
Hey I think you are just a concerned mommy! I was the same way with Gwen when we first got her! I worried about EVERYTHING! According to my boyfriend i still worry too much! When Gwen was 9 weeks she slept for hours during the day! She would sleep for 2 or 3 hours then be up and crazy for an hour and then back to sleep! So i think this is normal she is just a baby! Gwen is now 5 months old and I wish she would sleep during the day! Good luck!!!

Re: my very quiet 9 week old staff
She's just adjusting to her new home, it's normal for a bit of nervous feelings from her. She'll be as right as rain in a day or so then all the fun will start

Re: my very quiet 9 week old staff
As others have said she's just settling in to her new environment and just like a human baby eat, sleep and toilet is what most of her day will involve.
Make the most of it cos it won't last for long lol xXx

Awe... I wouldn't worry. Nitro (8 weeks) sleeps loads! In fact, it's a God send lol!
He doesn't really bark... He likes to growl at me when I pick him up tho :/. Something I'm working on.
Anyway congrats .

Re: my very quiet 9 week old staff
Hi and welcome from Rocky and me.
I was pleased to read that you have only just got your puppy at 9 weeks old, she has had the extra week with her Mum which will prove to be extra beneficial later on.
I wouldn't be overly worried about her dry nose now and she is probably just getting in some sleep while she can.
