Re: feel save with the leash on
A lot of dogs do that when they're on lead. It could be a number of things - protectiveness of you, feeling vulnerable or exposed because he's unable to run or move freely, etc..
You could try an extendable lead

Yep, I'm with Eleanor. It does make some dogs feel vunerable and anxious on lead. Flexi Leads and Training Leads are the way I keep Logan safe.

I agree too. Pixee tends to bark more when on lead, however off, she hasnt a care in the world.

Re: feel save with the leash on
Ebony doesn't really react to anything on or off lead besides dogs! She's better off lead with dogs since she gets worked up that she can't play and she thinks she should be allowed to play with every dog she sees I thought she was aggressive because of how she acts on lead; turns out she's just overly excitable and looks bad because she can't run or do her happy paws! I still don't walk past other dogs when she's on lead since it's not worth the hassle as owners let their dogs run everywhere and she's very determined to play
