toilet woes Empty toilet woes

Post by patches_mum Sun Apr 28 2013, 20:21

So day to day patch is really good at going outside to go toilet, but every now and again he will still go inside even though we let him out (sometimes almost as soon as he comes in sometimes) We tell him of and put him in his naughty spot... but is this still normal at 10 months old???

Many thanks x

Some dogs do take longer to toilet train than others. Smile What methods have you tried so far?

My pooch was 15 months before he was fully toilet trained...they all learn at different times.

Have you tried rewarding with treats and lots of fuss everytime he goes outside and when he toilets during walks?

A firm 'no' might help when he goes inside. Some choose to ignore their dog for so many minutes or shut them in a different room isolating them for so long.

Good point. I find that praise can work a lot better than reprimands for toilet training - for some dogs, at least. If Patch is expecting loads of praise and fun when he goes to the toilet outside, he'll be more eager to do it. Smile

It will take a bit more time with some dogs, carry on with what you are doing, he will soon learn Smile they have the occasional slip up but don't worry Smile
