Logan's Morning Walk
I haven't posted in a while so I took a few pics from this morning. It is very wet here today so I just went to the park near my house.
I got a shorter 15ft training lead made and attached it to my flexi lead so it isn't restricting him in any way, and I don't have to carry a soaking wet, filthy lead either.
Bit of a brag, but he has been so good lately and I'm very proud of him. As most of your know he has issues with certain dogs and struggles when around them. But the past few days I have seen a massive improvement in him, it nearly seems he isn't even concerned with other dogs anymore.
He's a little teapot.
DERP face.
Deep thought.
I also tried to take a video, but it is pretty rubbish because I am on my own and have to keep my eyes out for dogs coming etc. But anyway...

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Thank you everyone. I am very happy for him because he was so great as a young pup with other dogs but he seemed so distressed and annoyed at a point because he had became nervous.
I am very near the point of getting another dog and I think it would be the best thing for him as when he is around good dogs he is always very happy

Are you going to get a rescue Mat?
Yes, without a doubt.
Logan is the first dog I ever got with papers. I've always had rescues before. But I thought at the time it would be important to have papers as I thought they'd maybe help with breed restictions at the time. I know now it isn't the case at all though.
I don't think I could have two big Stafford's like Logan at one time though, as it may be too much to handle. I'm planning for a smaller terrier JRT/Patterdale or possibly a smaller Staffy X.

Yay! I wish I could have 2 but it wouldn't be fair without a garden plus I don't think the mother would be too impressed walking 2!

Thanks Ellie, he is a mixture of the grumpiest and goofy-est looking dog I know. He's the boy though.

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Well done Mat for considering another rescue dog, you could maybe take Logan along with you to meet some potential friends, I'm sure most rescue centres would be only too pleased for you to do this anyway. That way you can immediately see how he will react to another dog and get the right one matched to him.

Thanks Kathy.
There is a great centre right beside my work office. I check it out everyday. They seem to do things very differently to a lot I've seen around these parts.
I'd def bring the Monster, it has to be right for him above everything because I'd be doing it for him more than anything else.

Aw, jealous of you for being near to getting another dog, so jealous
Anyway, Logan is looking very handsome as always, and you're right that he often looks grumpy or goofy. In a beautiful way though great to hear he's been good recently regarding other dogs too. Great video too his recall seems fine to me! He looks so happy

Thanks
His recall is very good 90% of the time but for example a husky or GSD was to arrive he'd be off and I'd never stop him. That flexi lead/training lead is 35ft long and enough distance he ever needs in my eyes. I think it's the most responsible thing to do in my situation.
I moan enough about people letting unsocialble dogs off lead so I wouldn't feel right doing it myself

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Good point. Zac was good enough to be let off the lead because he'd ignore dogs from a certain distance, and he never had any trouble in his entire life with us. But definitely depends on the dog, so very responsible you should take more videos though, it captures the happy side more than the serious side.

I'll def try, I only had my crappy digital camera so I couldn't do anything too great.
Yea Logan is good most of the time but he is that quick and that strong I wouldn't take the risk.
He will def get there though, if the last few days continue I'd be safe to say he was totally better tbh

Prove it. Have a deep face contest :p
I'd love to long line Lexi but she's an idiot and if she has one on she walks along in a huff as if "don't you trust me" and the moment I let her off she would run to a dog lol

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Mat , some brilliant pics there and I feel for you with your caution over Logan as I am going like that with Tommy but its something you have to do when you are responsible . Just a couple of wrongdoings from the little bugger and you tend to just close up that little more .
But Logan is a little (BIG) star as far as I can see and a very happy boy

It would be no contest
I genuinely couldn't do without my long leads tbh.

Cheers Dave.
Logan hasn't got as far as ever getting a hold of another dog but has tried before. I can sort of tell the type of dog he won't like and when I do I just try to go elsewhere.
He is more nervous than anything else.
I've been bringing a squeaky toy with me lately and it has done a real good job of breaking his attention around other dogs too.

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Squeaky toys work with me too when Loki's distracted. As does telling him to 'find it' because it means there's something tasty on the ground and he has to sniff it out, works wonders because sniffing and food are his two favourite things
Guest- Guest
Re: Logan's Morning Walk
I bought those little tiny stupid squeaky Kong tennis balls because they fit in my pocket etc. It seem to be enough to get him to pay attention.
It's def been working lately anyway.

I meet a fella with a big brute of a male Boxer and he is exactly the same. Just plods along, off lead, past kids/dogs etc and never even turns his head.
It's unreal

Logan looking gorgeous as ever. Great pics Mat and on the video he looks quite a relaxed dog and a good boy for fetching too. He deserved his sleep in the sun naughty Daddy for waking him up! At last we hear that sexy voice of yours!

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
Great pics mate and Logan is a stunner!!! as youve seen in one of my posts I know exactly what you mean about off leading. even now Marleys off for a bit its only 5 mins at a time and never near the park exits. I dont think I'll ever be able to do it in the woods though he's like a different dog out there.
BTW the tea pot pose mad me me laugh

Re: Logan's Morning Walk
when you adopt the new dog if will be a jrt you must be very cautious with them is not so easy with 2 believe me and with they playing my max play with sasha very hard sometimes and she go to bite him..then he want to bite her..i must be there all the time to stop them after i told them stop they are friends again:))and to go out with 2 of them is hard at first time..for ex: my max go always in the front like a mad dog and sasha always in my back..but in the end you will be happy to have 2 dogs like i am
