Name: Blaze
Age: OAP
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Can I live with Children: Yes, older
Can I live with cats: Not tested
Can I live with other dogs:Yes, older dogs, no young and bouncy
Kennelled In:South Wales
Blaze has been in kennels for over a year waiting to come home to his elderly owner, unfortunately that won’t be happening.
He is probably around 12/13 years old and has a few lumps and bumps that will not be removed, but are not anything to worry about. He is very thin and has muscle deterioration from being in kennels for so long.
He is great on lead although his back legs are a little wobbly, this will change with regular exercise.
He is very gentle and well behaved and would love to be in a quiet home either alone or with another quiet dog.
As we only want to find the perfect home that Blaze can spend the rest of his days, there will be no adoption fee for him and Friends of the Animals RCT will cover all vet costs for him.
He is currently in Kennels in South Wales, but we will help with transport across the UK for the perfect home. Ideally we need to get this poor old boy in a home ASAP. He deserves to be cuddled up on someone’s sofa for the rest of time he has left

Message from Mary Giles one of our oldie fosterers:
I have always had a soft spot for the older dog! I suppose it is because I know the younger ones especially puppies will be easier to find homes for .
Three of my older dogs had lived all of their lives with a previous owner. My heart aches not only for the owner who may have to give up their dog but also for their beloved canine companion. How frightened they must be with this sudden change!
I was sent this poem after Boycie my 17 year old Chihuahua died. He had lived with his past owner for 15 years. The writer is unknown.
"A little old man arthritic and sore,
It seems that I am wanted no more.
I once had a home, I once had a bed
A place that was warm and where I was fed.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
Now I sit in a kennel where day after day
The younger ones are chosen and taken away
When I had come to the end of my rope
You saw my face and again I knew hope
You saw past the grey, the legs wobbly with age
You felt I deserved a life beyond this cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed.
You gently stroked my tired old head.
I promise to return all the love that you give
To you dear friend, as long as I live.
I may be with you for weeks or for years
We will share many smiles and a few tears.
When the time comes and I must leave
I know you will cry and your heart it will grieve
When I arrive at the Bridge all brand new.
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you
And I will brag to all who will hear
Of the person who made my last days so dear!
Anon!
I have a lovely Maltese called Kimbo who will be 18 in a few weeks’ time.
I have had him for just a year but that little dog is so close to my heart.
He has given me as much happiness as I hope I have given him.
Please do think of taking on an older dog, they have so much to give.
It really is a wonderful feeling knowing that you have helped them in their twilight years. Mary Giles

Ahhh Blaze you certainly do not deserve to be in kennels at your time of life, I hope you find the support of a family home very soon

Hi Jo just a tip off so you don't hold your hopes up but I put a request in too and was rejected on the grounds of this little fella just needing a quiet life and our dogs were deemed to be too young for him .
He's been in the kennels for over a year and very institutionalised , that said though , no harm in trying and may think of it differently as you have 2 girls

Hi Dave - yes I've been thinking that too, and as our 2 are even younger than your 2, then I'm not building my hopes too high. Shame, but understandable.
