Skin Irritation
Alfie, our 2 year old staffy goes through phases where he will have a very irritated, sore rash-type patch on his belly. It really flares up more so when our grass has been cut and becomes quite angry red, or if we have been on walks through longer grasses (which is sometimes, more often than not, unavoidable where we live).
Having spoken to the vet, they advised that skin conditions is something a lot of the breed can suffer with - but I would have thought that there would have been some sort of cream or what have you to help him when it does flare up? Have any of you came across a similar issue with your staffies skin?

Re: Skin Irritation
Skin probs are common. Grass sap allergy is very common.
A cpl things u can do, after walking, wipe ur pooch down with a damp towel/cloth to remI've any sap/pollens on her fur/skin.
Give 1 piriton tablet a day. Lot of pl on this forum have given antihistamines at one time or another. Personally I use the Tesco brand allergy tablets (Loritadine one a day)

Re: Skin Irritation
Yep my Logan gets this, but mostly on his feet. It does seem to be something Staffy's are susceptible and maybe even prone too. I went to the vet and the only thing he said that he could really do was put him on a course of steroids which I didn't want to.
From asking on the forum I got some great natural ideas to try and they have made a massive difference to him. Especially the ACV.
Have a look through this thread.

Re: Skin Irritation
Short coated dogs often have problems with grass sap! It isn't just staffs. If there's an allergy to the sap it usually shows itself on the belly and/or paws.
One easy way to combat it is to wipe your dog's belly & paws with a damp cloth every time you come in from a walk or the garden. In the meantime you can try giving him half a Piriton, twice a day for a few days to see if it'll reduce the redness, and if it's really sore smear some Sudocrem over his skin & it'll ease it & protect it against infection.

Re: Skin Irritation
Zeus has similar problems to grass/allergies, and I do the same as suggested above.
When it flares up, I'll give him antihistamines (Loritadine - once a day), I also put Sudocrem on any sores and always wash his paws when I bring him in from a walk.
