Post by Bustersmummy238 Tue Apr 23 2013, 17:35

Hi. I have a 8 month old staffy had him 6 months now. He's normally very cleans we have no isuea.
But I don't like leaving him in his cage when I got to work max of 5 hours
So I leave him in the kitchen. He has a bed water food toys chews
But today I've come home and he's chewed the door into the living room. I so not want this to be
A habit. How do I stop this??

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank you

Hi from me and the girls Big Grin . Have you tried leaving the radio on? Maybe put some anti chew spray on the door? It's okay to leave a pup in a cage for 4 hours. Is there nobody who can pop in and see him?

Why not crate when you go to work? It could be a one off, it could become a habbit. You can use certain sprays that help. My first ate all the heals off my shoes along with the kitchen floor but I persevered and she grew out of it Xx

Totally agree with Janey, try crate training when you are away. If done properly he will love it. Smile

There are loads of topics on crate training the right way if you use the search function.

It may however just be a one off.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.

Have to agree try the crate training, if not is there a room you could leave him in where he cannot do any damage ?

We use to put lacey in a cage for the same resson she could not be trusted. We found giving her a proper chew toy gave her something to take her frustration out on. And it stopped. Now we leave her in the living room no cage with the kitchen door open so she can strech her legs.and has access to food and water .. with the chew toy try giving it him as a treat when he does something good then when you leave the house he has his 'treat' till you come home. Mite not work with everyones pooch but it certainly worked with ours

Post by otisthestafford Wed Apr 24 2013, 08:49

Welcome to the forum Smile Otis has chewed one thing in the kitchen when we first had him. We decided not to use a crate, provided him with some chews and when we go out we leave the tv on for him. Also we have a member of family come down to let him out if we are gone for a long time. This may not be the answer for you and the crate may be the way to go... The bitter spray does work but you have to reinforce it with training at first. Hope you find a solution.
