No such thing as an Irish Staff, just Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Anyway, all I'll say is, if you want a healthy blue puppy, make sure both parents aren't blue (ie, one parent is blue, the other is black). People who breed two blues together risk giving health problems to the puppies, so stay well clear of that. Because so many greedy people breed blue dogs together to make some money off a popular colour, it might take a bit of time to find a responsible breeder, but it'll pay off in the end when you have a responsibly-bred, healthy puppy.

As said there is no breed as "Irish Blue" in relation to Staffords, people do refer to the colour as Irish Blue over here but it can be for any breed/cross.

Just make sure both parents are health tested and the parents are not both blue. Also don't pay ludicrous amounts as there is no need.

Have a wee look through this Smile

I have seen dogs claimed as irish staffs. And tbh they are way to big to be staff. More like pitbull types. Wich again in this country ther is no such breed. Just mixes of dogs.. thanks for the advice. We should be looking at june brfore we take the plunge. Do yous no of any reputable breeders for a blue staff?? Lennox (laceys freind is a blue) his dad was solid white with a tiney blue dot on his ear and the mum was biscuit with a blue mask and nose. And all the pups, (4 dogs and 3 bitches) where solid blues

I can't recommend any breeders, but ChampDogs is a good website, then you can see if the parents have been health tested and make sure they're not both blue, etc.

Please be very careful when buying a blue puppy as this is quite a minefield and you may get a puppy with all sorts of health issues and problems later in his/her life which may well not be apparent at first.

Please have a good look through our FAQ section which has lots of advice for you:

We will be checking the rescue centers before we buy. But ideally we want a pup, so if there is none in our local rescue centers we dont realy want to take on a adult dog.

Pups are in rescues all the time but generally not advertised, you will need to speak to them directly and express interest.

Rescue centres do very often get younger dogs in too, as Janey says go and have a word with them, they may be able to put you on a list or give some other advice.

Agreed. I think you should check rescues first and ask them specifically if they have pups. Really, it wouldn't matter to me what colour the dog was - the sheer fact that I'd be rescuing a dog from a life in kennels would be enough, but everybody has their own preferences.

Those dogs are just cross breeds being passed off as a 'special breed'. Wink
