Worst feeling ever.
So today we were on the field in the sun as usual - we got to Ebonys favorite field; I put her on a lead to walk her past the road and lead her through the brambles ect and to make sure there's no dogs on there before I let her off (there never is any dogs on there ). Anyway, we'd been rolling round and chasing for about a hour and a half and we saw plenty of dogs on the bottom field which she doesn't bother with EVER! She never even walks next to it, looks at it or anything since she's always eyes on me or her ball or whatever I'm throwing! All of a sudden she got off me and literally BOLTED to the bit of the field where you walk in, jumped across all the brambles to play with another dog on the bottom field; then I saw a car speeding down the country lane (after the brambles you have to walk over a little road to get to te bottom field) and she wouldn't come back when called and the car had gone past, I couldn't see her on the field with the other dog either I really thought I'd lost her! I was running down to the opening and shouting her name ect all of a sudden she just trotted onto the field 100% okay and looking VERY happy with herself!!! It's safe to say she nearly gave me a heart attack! It's the first time she's ever run off and I can't understand why since she didnt cross the road, or play with the other dog! but oh my gosh I was in pieces! She's now asleep snoring next to me cuddled up after having a treat for her dinner - safe to say I think she's glad she came back

Re: Worst feeling ever.
The do like to make us panic. We were out walking last week with my friend and Otis jumped up onto a wall as he does often but we were walking near a waterfall anyway I looked over the wall to see a massive easily 30 ft drop safe to say my heart was in my throat but he jumped back down and was ok but yeah they do like to give us a fright :-) its to keep us on our toes

Yea, I'd have died too. Logan used to do that as a pup, fully just looking to play, but all the "what if's" pop into your head about what could happen.
Glad you got it sorted.

Yep, Loki's ran off and become deaf like that too, it's terrifying. He's now confined to a long line until I can completely trust him

Re: Worst feeling ever.
It seems a lot of us have experienced a similar situation; I know I have - twice Each time I thought I'd never see my baby again - he'd get squashed on a road etc etc etc, all sorts of things run through your head whilst you're searching, searching, calling, calling in the middle of a nightmare.
Like Loki, Kuchar is now "restrained" unless he can play with his few particular friends (and even then my heart is in my mouth) - never now do I let him off his long leash whilst he's on his own.

Gosh looks like we've all been through the heart stopping traumas of our babies running off! Thanks for all the replies, and I'm glad you all got your doggies back too! I don't even know why she did it, I think I'm going to take her on her training lead like some of you have mentioned just to be 100% sure she won't do it again! I don't think she will, but I don't think I'd survive if she did it again
