do stafford pups grow into their ears?
random question i know..
but the more i look at bucks ears the more i think that they look a bit big for stafford ears
most of the time they look more like american bulldog ears
sort of more forward facing:
(his nose looks much longer than it actually is in that pic for some reason. sort of like a fat JRT haha)
then when hes asleep they flop down like labrador ears:
also as a side note
one ear is floppier than the other haha
so yeah... just wondered if he'll grow into them since hes only 4 months old and i know hes got a lot of shape changing to do
or if ive just got a dog with big lugs :p
just curious really

They definitely grow into them, Loki had massively floppy ears:
But now they're normal Staff ears Buck has a lot of growing to do yet.

It's OK Richie, I'm sure he will grow into his ears dont worry. Various parts of the body can grow at different rates then it all seems to come together eventually.

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
cheers folks
i had a feeling he would grow into them but since i got him from BYBs im not that confident about his family history dispite his mum and dad being very nice looking stafford examples.
so just wondered if he might have slightly larger ears than normal since he's also on the tall side at 16 inches at the shoulder already.
love him to death either way so its all good

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
Ears don't actually grow an awful lot after about 4 or 5 months old - they change shape & 'sit' better on the head, but the size stays pretty much the same.

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
Gwen's ears were completely floppy when we got her at 8 weeks old..now one is back ( i think its called "rose" ears) and one is still flopped and the way down..she looks so cute and funny with two different ears! She is also 4 months old..we are hoping eventually the floppy ear will fold back to match the the other ear..i think their ears change as they get older i have seen many staffs that have floppy ears as pups and more perky ears as adult dogs..however i have also seen pups that have perky ears already at 8 weeks old..each dog is different! I couldnt believe her ears would change until the one literally went from floppy to perked back overnight!!! Im sure his ears will change into a more typical "staffy" ear as he grows more! He is absolutely stunning by the way and reminds me a lot of gwen since they are both mostly white!

They do! Enjoy the crazy ears while you can (so cute!) I have heard that teething is what makes the ears go a bit funky whilst they are puppies (not sure if its a myth or not!!) Dukes ears are crazy ATM and every day they sit differently! BTW He is ADORABLE

Staffs go through a funny ears stage. It's normal, Lily had a bong lug for a while and now her ears are perfect.

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
Just seen your pupppy is 4 months old ..i would expect the ears to have the fold in them at this age .. here is a pic of my puppy at 9 weeks old , just so you get an idea as to what the ears should look like . They can of course fold later than 9 weeks and usually have one ear folded and one not for a while .. Have you seen your pups ears fold at all ? Teething can effect ears .. sometimes if they have been folded they can drop again in teething or even go nearly half *! and then settle after teething ..What were the parents ears like? did you see?

Wow, what an ear transformation, he definitely grew into them.
Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
He is on the tall side! Gwen is 4 months and is 12 inches tall and weighs 22 pounds now :O can't believe how much she has grown! She was only 8 pounds when we got her at 8.5 weeks old!..how much does he weigh? All pups grow at different rates! I have seen many staffs with long legs too so maybe he will just be on the tall side! I think his ears will still probably change and go back as he is still a young puppy! Did both of his parents ears fold back? We are still waiting for Gwen's other ear to fold! Her right ear folded back at 13 weeks and has stayed that way since but the left ear is still flopped down lol! Did he lose any teeth yet? Gwen is currently chewing every waking moment and even wakes up in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times to chew! It's get exhausting and we are praying she starts losing her baby needle teeth soon!!!!

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
just measured him again and he was less wriggly this time. hes just under 15 inches at the withers
also yes his ears fold and look very staffy a lot of the time like so:
i was mostly just concerned about their size/proportion
and as far as his parents go
im pretty sure the dogs i saw were his parents. i dont have any reason to believe that the dogs i saw werent. and i have pictures of him nursing from his mother with the rest of the litter
his father is pure white (small black speckles in random places as normal)
and his mother is black
both were present when i went to see the pups
he was the only pure white in the litter but the rest were black or black and white.
i was told the parents were registered but im fairly sure now that they may not have been as the "breeders" said "come back in a couple of weeks and we'll have the papers sorted for the litter" and they didnt have them a month or so ago when i asked as they'd just moved house (convenient eh?) theyre still local to me though so may pay them a visit.
the parents did look like full staffords to me however
here he is with his dad at approx 6 weeks old
and his dad
cant find the full pic of his mother but going from the pic of her nursing the pups she does look rather leggy so that might be the reason hes so tall already
she wasnt particularly tall "in person" though :s

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
and as for teething, he still hasnt lost any of his baby teeth (that i can see anyway)
he also does have one floppier ear than the other which is the one shown in my original post in the pic where hes asleep.

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
His ears look to have a good "crease" "fold" in them on that pic , so hopefully when hes finished teething they will settle back down :-) Love the pic of him with his dad ..very cute! <3

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
Dad's a big boy!
To be honest, I can't really see anything wrong with his ears - as Tillcarr says, the crease is very apparent, even if it isn't all of the time. I'm sure they'll settle & he'll be a handsome boy!

Re: do stafford pups grow into their ears?
thought i'd update this as the mighty buckaroos ears have indeed changed in relation to teething!
theyre now folded properly and no longer look like labrador/elephant ears photoshopped onto a staffy :p
behold!
poor quality because i had to zoom right in from across the room so as not to disturb him and well... because iphone :p
foldy
so yeah if anyone happens to have this same query and searches it on here...
here's your proof that ear shape/position can be affected by teething haha
