So my friend owns a dog. He is a pedigree...but not KC Registered. How would we go about getting him KC Registered?

Re: KC Registration
Yep, as Steve says - the breeder is the only person who can register a litter.
The latest fad is for so called breeders to sell pups without KC papers cheaper than a litter mate who's potential owners are willing to pay over the odds for the KC reg.

Re: KC Registration
Can't be a pedigree without being registered sadly, as that is basically what the term "pedigree" means.
If you are thinking of these pups still make sure you go through a good breeder.

The litter has to be registered by the breeder as soon as it is born, or within 1 year of birth. Both parents must, of course, already be registered with the KC.

He has pedigree papers. Does that mean he's probably KC registered? Or are they different? He's three-Four.

Re: KC Registration
How can he have pedigree papers but not be KC registered , do you mean a hand written (or typed) 5 generation pedigree , if its not from the Kennel Club then it's not worth the paper it's written on , sorry
My Tilly was purchased from BYB who said the mum was registered and the dad wasn't (the story was that the dad they wanted to use had a hip problem which may be genetic so didn't want to pass it on, nice story and reason but only a story , I was given a 5 gen pedigree (you can buy the templetes all over online) and would love to think it was really true as some great names in the lines and my Tilly is a littleprincess but sadly this document has absolutely no value

A 'pedigree' is a list of a dog's ancestors. Sometimes they're true, sometimes they're not! But either way, it doesn't prove that a dog's registered.
If your friend doesn't have a registration document for his dog then it's likely that he isn't registered.

Re: KC Registration
Batman, the kennel club has a list of approved breeders o each breed, check their website out, m boys breeder is on there, you do need to be careful buying a puppy, especially if papers etc are important to you, personally, I would only ever have a registered fatty, especially considering to recent bad press and staffy type comments we get all the time!!

Re: KC Registration
You need to contact the breeder of this dog to see if they hold any KC eg papers, it might be that they rehomed the dog but decided for whatever reason to withold the KC reg documents.
