he's limping off his back leg and vet says his knee keeps popping out so they have to remove a bit of bone to correct it, says it's a frequent problem with staffs.
the wife looked it up on youtube but couldn't watch it but will stop him hopping on 3 legs

Yes I have heard of it, we thought Moo may have to have it but it turned out to arthritis. I think its a pretty standard op but the recovery time is harder.
Wishing you guys all the best, when is it?

Re: jakes having op anyone had it done
Yes, that's patella luxation. Tibial Crest Transposition is one way of correcting it.
There's usually a very good corrective rate for it. When does he go in?

Re: jakes having op anyone had it done
He'll be fine. The hardest part will be keeping him quiet & restricting exercise for a while afterwards - good luck with that!

Re: jakes having op anyone had it done
I'm hoping my (nearly) six month old pup isn't going to end up needing this surgery.
A few weeks ago she was tearing round the living room with a toy, threw it in the air, jumped to catch it and landed awkwardly, damaging her knee joint. Since then, her knee has been popping out of the joint if she runs about.
The vet seems to think that this will heal itself over the next month or two as it's a trauma injury and not genetic. He's advised no off lead running, keeping her from jumping on and off the furniture and stopping her from going up and down the stairs. He said that lots of road walking will help to build the muscles that support the joint and this will help to keep the knee in place.
As you can imagine trying to stop a staffy pup from running around is proving difficult! I just hope he's right and she does heal properly.

Re: jakes having op anyone had it done
My hubby has had this done on his leg, where the patella tendon is, a block is cut out with the tendon attached and then another block the same size is cut out in the desired position and the 2 blocks are swapped and fixed in place. This op is for alignment purposes.

Re: jakes having op anyone had it done
Ouch! Poor little Jake - that was some op.
I know you know this already, but don't let him lick at the wounds. Kuchar did that after his measly little castration op (my fault, I didn't put his lampshade on) and he had to be re-sutured.
Sending you and Jake big >< and all best wishes for a rapid recovery.
