One year of Walking, sure adds up
Since April 7th last year I've been using Endomondo to track the dog walks out of curiosity, and see how far we go in a year. I've had a few hitches like forgetting to turn it on or forgetting to turn it off while i drove back home, that had some impresive stats in it good job you can correct mistakes so its all pretty acurate for this year milage wise.
From reading the forums I guess I walk mine about the same ammount as most of you so you'll probably be a bit suprised at how far you have gone with your dog over the last year. Also remember its me being tracked and not Marley who has prob coverd twice if not more distance. I havent factored in laska's seperate walks as a pup or the morning walks as they are only to a enclosed feild over the road where they can have a runabout.
Sooo, how did we do,
Total walks = 470
Total Duration = 21 days 5 hours 11 min
Total Distance = 1276 miles
Burgers burnt = 318 ( havent had anywhere near that many so i have some catching up to do)
Average speed 2.51 mph
average pace = 23 mtr per 56 seconds
To put that into perspective here is a 1276 mile radius from where I live in google maps. So if it was possible to walk in a straight line to anywhere you could be sunning yourself in Morroco, Greece or Tunisa or Trampling over the volcano's in Iceland by now.
I also know that without the dogs, I wouldnt have walked a fraction of that in everyday life so I have them to thank for getting me fitter. Just one more benifit of Dog ownership.

you can get a free app for your phone and create an account at www.endomondo.com it uses the GPS in your phone to track your route and then uploads it automatically to the site for you. its fantastic for a free app and the accuracy is amazing, you can subscribe for more features but I thought that was a bit OTT for walking the dogs lol

Wow, that's amazing. Before I got Loki I didn't do any exercise at all for a couple of years, so it is definitely another bonus of having a dog.

Same mate, I've lost just over a stone in that year. not only have my dogs got me fitter but being out and about I have met some really great people and there dogs. I'm not kidding when I say I have made more friends since getting marley in 2011 than I have since moving down here in 1997 and have had some of the best times out and about with them. And of course without them I wouldnt be on here enjoying talking to other enthusiastic owners....dogs rock.
So its not just the love and affection they give us that make them so special but fitness, good times and a wider social circle, what other animal gives so much back to its humans
Btw my legs are killing trying to get a good walk in, beware those that download the app, you find yourself trying to beat your weekly/monthly personal bests lol I scraped in by a whisker on the week befores totals.

Amazing how far us dog walkers walk. No wonder why they say people who own dogs live longer with that exercise every year
