Suki seems to have hurt herself
Well Suki appears to have injured her rear right leg. She won't put any weight on it and is whinning a little. It doesn't appear to be too serious as I've felt along the entire limb and applied pressure without her pulling away. I'm going to run her to the vet today just to be safe since Suki's insured and the vet is literally less than a 5 minute walk.

Aw poor Suki. Was she doing any more exercise than usual or anything?
She'll be fine though, always best to pop to the vets. Especially when it's so handy

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
No it was actaully a light exercise day for her since she has had some stomach issues. It was most likely when she was burning off some energy with her mad dash for the day.

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
It turns out to most likely be a problem with her spine. The vet doesn't think its a degenerative disease and is most likely she just a mild injury. She will be on daily pain and anti-inflammatory shots for the next 3 days and than pills for a week or so before being reexamined.
Suki is not to happy with the diagnosis as she has the vets, espically shots and really doesn't want to just sit on the couch and rest.

Hopefully it's just a twist or strain & the anti inflamms will do the job. Poor Suki. ><
Oh, dear - good luck with that!

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
She was basically back to herself this morning and wanting to go for her normal walk. The vet was surprised that she recovered so quickly and didn't see the need for further treatment.
He did say he thought it could be a kidney stone but to just keep an eye on her and build up slowly to her normal routine.

Dogs and kids are rubbish at milking injuries and illness. Should watch me sometimes I can drag the sympathy on for months

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
Thats weird J ... Max is exactly the same at the mo, not puttin any weight on his r/h rear .. I too have done as you did and been up and down the leg applying a little preasure and nothing, it looks really stiff when he first gets up and he limps pretty badly at the mo .. but if he lets me massage it a bit, he walks ok for a bit ... so just hopeing he's just pulled a muscle or summut
Hope Suki mends ok and is back to normal asap

Yesterday she couldn't even move other than trying to use her front paws to pull herself where she wanted. I felt bad for her so she got fed on the couch and I would bring water to her. She looked so sad I thought it might be really serious.

Hope Max is alright, they can really worry you at times. I was imagining the worst case and surgery. I don't know how I would keep her quiet enough to recover because she simply isn't happy if she can't exercise.

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
The vet was shocked at how fast she went back to normal and so was I really. She was barking at me most of the day. I only took her for about 2 miles today and wouldn't let her run. I'm going to wait at least a week before I let her playfight at the park as well.

Good stuff mate, rest is as important as excercise as you know, and a fit dog like Suki will be right as rain in no time

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
I kept her from playfighting in the park today and kept the walks to 5-6km with very little running and she is doing well. Although, she isn't too happy about the reduction of exercise

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
I imagine it's hard work cutting down the exercise. But as you know yourself, it'll mean a speedier recovery.

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
Yeah, she just seems so sad though. Keeps sitting by the door and looking back at me wanting to go out. When I pulled up short on her second walk she sat down and whinned for about 5 minutes before finally deciding to take the treat and head back home

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
I'm just going to build her back up slowly. With the weather finally warming up she doesn't need as much exercise. Thankfully it wasn't winter when it happened

Re: Suki seems to have hurt herself
I let her wrestle a little today only about 5 minutes or so before a rest. She also got a 5 mile walk in with some jogging so I think she is back to normal

We're both doing much better. My shin splints are feeling better and I am taking a day off tommorow to run errands and take Suki for her shots.
