dry food recomendations - New food Empty New food

Post by reuben Thu Apr 04 2013, 14:09

Had problems getting Orijen just after the Festive Period because of hold ups in customs etc so decided to look for an alternative. Came across the WHICH survey and saw that Eden, which is made here in the UK and a holistic food, got a top rating, so decided to give it a try. Have just completed the first week solely on Eden ( after introducing it gradually with his Orijen ).

First few things I have noticed are, fewer and much firmer poos ( is this a good thing? Does it mean more of the food is being utilised rather than coming out the other end?) Also it is working out cheaper at circa. 90p per day against £1.40 for the Orijen.

Only concern I have is, with both foods, I feed roughly 250gr a day ( spread over 2 meals) on which he is thriving but I feel mean as it doesn't appear much in his dish and is consumed in minutes.

Anyone else using Eden? Thoughts please.

P.S.
I made enquiries re cat food, and they hope to launch a feline product in the next month or two.

Not used it myself but have heard good things about it, and yes smaller poo's means he is getting more out of the food so less to come back out!

Pleased you have found something that works Big Grin

Usually the better quality the food the less you need to feed, so don't feel mean about yourself if it looks like he is only getting a small amount.

Rocky only has 150g approx per day of his kibble.

My old girl is on Eden, considering I'm a raw feeder I really rate it! If for some reason I couldn't buy my raw in bulk I'd feed Eden!

Jason, Ramsey is the same age as Bacchus, almost to the day. How much EDEN are you feeding and what's his weight? I feel Baccgus is slightly overweight at 19kg even though I'm only feeding 250g per day.

somone else mentioned it on here a little while back (sorry cant remember who you are)and when i looked into it it on a food rating site it was the only uk food manufacturer to gain a 5 star rating so thinking on moving mine onto it as well. I like the honesty of the people that make it too, it costs me roughley 61p a day each so not such a big jump for such a good quality food

I have two older cocker spaniels who were eating dry chappie (recommend by my vet due to anal gland problems!). I now have a 9 week old puppy staff which made me look into a decent dog food cause I thought why do we pay hundreds of pounds for a dog and then feed it rubbish?! I came across the whichdogfood guide and decided to go for Millies Wolfheart which you will see got 4.8 out of 5 which is pretty close to Eden and works out cheaper as you need to feed less. Anyway, my puppy loves it so much, he doesn't even crunch it, he just swallows and my other two dogs have gone from pooing 6 times a day each to just once in less than a week There coats have gone shiny too! It really is worth paying extra because the cheaper stuff is bulked out with cereals which can cause allergies and all the waste comes out the other end. I felt sorry for mine at first when I had to dramatically reduce the portion size but they don't seem to mind at all. My adults weigh 15kg which is about the same weight as a male staffie should roughly weigh and the recommendation was to feed 170g per day but I have found this too much for them as their poo went a bit slop so have reduced to 150g a day and it suits them fine....hence saving me even more money! Good luck

I might give that a try the girls have had Pero and Wainwrights and they are both good, however anything that makes less poo sounds good. Big Grin

They do send free samples, although they are not very big but the bigger the bag you buy, the more reduction you get. Delivery is free too which always helps and their support line is really helpful and their facebook page too. They are a small family run business. I paid £89.95 for 29kg which was a mix of salmon and veg and countryside mix which is lamb, duck and rabbit. If all 3 of mine were on 160g a day, a 14.5kg bag costing just under £45 would last a month but if you are only feeding one dog the same amount it would last 3 months, a costing of around 50p per day which I think is a bargain!
