Re: work out your class
It's very interesting , I love sociology
They used to base it on occupation only years ago . I was brought up working class with none of my family going to uni whereas the oh was from a middle class background .... I think I have done a good job of dragging him down though lol

Precariat
This is the poorest and most deprived class group. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:
Tend to mix socially with people like themselves
Come from a working class background
Rent their home - over 80%
oh dear....

Re: work out your class
Thing is it doesn't really take in your background Ella , just your current status
I grew up in reasonable poverty (we had hand me downs , mam and dad didnt work and egg n chips was my favourite meal, and still is btw) , on a council estate but things worked out for me job wise.
Most of my family have done time and in my area a Copper would NEVER ask how to spell my surname as it was so well known
Anyone that knows me would be the first to say
You can take the lad out of Shildon but you'll never take Shildon out of the lad

Re: work out your class
Well i'm from a very very poor/bad background, like my mum had me at 15 didn't want me and i lived my first 3 years sleeping on the living room floor of her 'friends'.... and then the rest...
But yes i love life now but we are in a very low class, if you looked at money and such but hey, life is what you make it!

Ella, I am jealous you can afford 2 dogs, I am posh apparently and come from a reasonable back ground but every penny I earn goes out on bills, none left for anything else, so who's better off?

Re: work out your class
When they ask you " which of these do you know socially " and then lists occupations ... I ticked them all apart from software programer .
Also I expected them to ask more backround based questions .

Sounds tough Ella , I was lucky and had a very loving mam that would get up to the eyes and ears in debt to try and make sure we had xmas and bd presents and clothes on our backs and although my Dad was a complete C*** for most of his later life we had a stable home and that counts for a lot
But yes you are right , it is what you make it . The only concession I've made in life is that I won't let my daughter go without when I have the means for her not to though I will never spoil her and I will only ever go into debt for her to have a college education , as I got rid of my debts for the last 5 years or so and will never go back there withouyt a damned good reason, working for nothing just to pay off the CC

i won't go into detail but lets just say me and my mum really do not get on, and never in a million years would she do anything for me! She left my dad when i was little and remarried an utter tw** BUT my dad is AWESOME!

Thanks Ella , her mum is ok too Sure she doesn't think so when her mouth kicks off and the punishment kicks in but I did learn the value of money since I left school as I either earned it or borrowed it , and if I borrowed it there was only me to pay it back, and I think a lesson learnt well in life

Re: work out your class
I did this quiz out of curiosity only as I don't believe that "class" has any place in today's society. I found the questions very limited in scope and and over-preoccupied with current wealth and who your friends are. But it's just a bit of fun isn't it.
Oh, and I'm Traditional Working Class, which is about right as I have worked for most of my working life.
