Addisons disease
I have a question, does anyone have a dog that has been diagnosed with addisons disease?

Re: Addisons disease
I'm sorry, I haven't experienced it. Heard how painful it can be though.

Thanks, Macy has had the disease for about 6 months now and i'm finding it quite hard and she'll be going back to the vets tomorrow as she is not coping well either.

Poor thing, and tough for you. I've just heard of it through a friend of a friend. How old is Macy?

Re: Addisons disease
Can some dogs live normally as long as there blood levels are correct? I really haven't a clue, what will the vets involve tomorrow?

Re: Addisons disease
Yeah Sure they can, but she gets scared quite easily which means then if she has an episode she has to go on steroids but they don't seem to get her back on track, last time they put her daily pills up, so she might have to have another blood test (the fur has not grown back from last time yet lol) and see what they say.

Re: Addisons disease
Oh, poor thing. I had a friend (human!) who had Addison's & it could be quite scary at times. But he managed to control it, mainly, with steroids. He had to be careful, though - if he had a bad throat, for example, and couldn't swallow, he would have to go into hospital because he couldn't take his pills.
I've known two or three GSD's with Addison's and they lived reasonably well once their correct medication levels was acheived. As you say, though, the slightest upset can set everything upside down.
How does your vet think she's coping?

Re: Addisons disease
Thanks for posting this. I have a stafford X labrador who was diagnosed with Addison's at 15 months. I blamed the lab genes...good to know I may be correct. He copes with the disease through steroids...but it ruined agility for him.
