Maize in dog food
Hi all,
I'm new to this board but am already enjoying reading everyone's posts.
We have been feeding our two Staffs Pero breed specific dry food but have noticed that a lot of people are saying the maize content is too high. Can someone tell me why this is bad for dogs or is it just that you feel it should have more meat in it to be a quality dog food?
Thanks

Re: Maize in dog food
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I personally feed my dog Logan on grain free James Wellbeloved as he had a problem with yeast build up and it was advised to cut grains out to help prevent it flaring up in the future.
However, a few of our members feed foods containing grains with a lot of success.

Re: Maize in dog food
yeah i was feeding Ramsey SBT Pero.
We've gone off it now because of the lack of meat content and the pointless amount of maize.
Now on Eden Holistic. Not only does he love the taste but its 80% meat content and with no grain.

Some staffys are sensitive to grains/wheat/maize. It can cause allergys - skin probs etc.
Always best to go grain free, high meat content.

Have a look at James Wellbeloved if you are thinking of changing. It's well priced too, hypoallergenic and grain free. That's what Logan eats and he loves it

Re: Maize in dog food
Maize/wheat etc are basically used as 'fillers' and have little or no digestive benefits for dogs. In fact many dogs nowadays appear to be intolerant of grains (wheat and maize are the two worst for this).
