im a bad furmum
tut tut
Well apparently i am I have for the past 2 ish weeks constantly have had texts, emails and letters from my old vets (we swapped but they still don't give in) as harv's vaccinations are over due, chance apparently doesn't exist
I told them when we left them he will NOT be having them, and they sent me a whole booklet thing in the post which basically said he will die without them
*le sigh* and no he still won't be having them

Re: im a bad furmum
Personally, I do plan on giving Loki his yearly vaccinations, but that's just my own choice. At the end of the day, they should respect your decision as long as they know it isn't out of malice or lack of caring or ignorance (which it isn't in your case).

haha oh i've had it out with them before!
Because dogs have the immunity from their parents, they also gain natural immunity from proper socialising as pups which tends to be higher then that from vaccs and the amount of damage vaccinations have done to dogs is not a thing i want to chance with the boys, plus i don't believe in giving unnecessary chemicals in any form

I would always vaccinate every 3 years, whatever you are told, sorry Ella, but Ella why do you bother with the vets anyway!

Re: im a bad furmum
it's a very very personal thing, and i would always say whether you choose to vac yearly or not is to research.
It's now recommended to give vac every 3 years like janey does but that is still to often for me
I will be titre testing for immunity with my two and only if they show very very low immunity will i even think about vaccing them

Re: im a bad furmum
I went to every 3 years after advice here, but tbh after the problems Moo has had I would never forgive myself if she caught something that could be avoided so after this year I will go back to annual boosters. Just feel they are safer Xx

Re: im a bad furmum
Our vets say every year. Hm. It'd affect my insurance if I went against their advice, if I remember it correctly. That's a shame. Still, I do think it's a personal choice, but regardless of possible risks with vaccinating (whether it's yearly or every three years), I'd feel very paranoid and unsafe if I didn't vaccinate Loki, so prefer to go with it. Just a shame that there's so much conflicting advice, particularly with vets, because if you find one you like when you don't follow what most vets tell you, it's very rare.

Re: im a bad furmum
Just to add, it would effect insurance if you where claiming against something that could have been detered by the jabs, hence I choose to have them Xx

The guidelines issued by the WSAVA are for the core vaccines to be given at puppy stage, 1 year old, and then every three years. Some vets follow this, but also advise certain individual vaccines to be given yearly, depending on the prevalence of the disease in your area. Some vets will still happily give all the vaccines annually, but it isn't necessary.

Oh, I thought it said somewhere that the insurance applies only if you go with what the vets recommend and etc., but that's good to know very confusing, the whole thing.

Re: im a bad furmum
My insurance states that Vaccinations must be given in accordance with your vet's recommendation. But if you don't get them done then any disease that could have been prevented by them won't be covered by the insurance.

Re: im a bad furmum
I wouldn't dare risk it personally, this village is mega dirty and dig sh- everywhere. The fields are rife with parvo and there have been quite a few dogs died from it both old and young, I don't have the balls to make that kind of decision, I understand why some people wont have it done though if they know what the risks are.
My parents refused to let me have a TB jab when I was at school and recieved critisism from the school, doctors and other parents, they were slated for.putting me at risk and questioned on why they thought they knew better than the doctors, they took it all in their stride and stood firm on their decision. 2 of my friends reacted badly to that injection, one still to this day has a scab constantly forming where the injection was given, and one has the mind of a child, he went from being one of the smartest kids in school to a window licker on the special bus because the doctors knew best. I recently took my son for his pre school boosters and upon requesting they make a note in his records that he is to never recieve the TB injection I was told that it had been scrapped as the risks involved outweighed the chances of actually getting TB, and they wonder why people doubt almost everything they say.
If you feel the risks are greater than the threat it is your right to object, and the vet should respect your right to make that decision, lets be honest it's not like the vet gives a cr4p about your dogs or anybody wlses, all he wants is your money and he will use the dirtiest form of sales to get it, scare tactics.

Well where we live it's far from clean and that but to me the pros of non vaccing far outweigh that of vaccing them
