Teaching to run Empty Teaching to run

I wondered if any one had any suggestions I could use to get Lola to run.

Basically she is very leggy and when she runs with other dogs or after other dogs she is as fast as a fast thing, and I know this is great excersise for her. Trouble is getting her to run without the help of other dogs. So far I've only tried the ball thrower, which, for about the first 3 times she runs to get it, and then just lies down and chews the ball. I walk to get it then throw it again and she is as bored as hell with it. So any suggestions would be great.

Have you thought about a boomer ball? Dempsey won't chase an ordinary ball ("You threw it, you go get it") but he'll happily chase his boomer ball around for ages.

I wouldn't push her too far at the moment, though, as she's still very young & you don't want to damage her tendons. Just let her take her own pace for a while, until she's 9 months/a year old. Then you can increase it.

Thanks for the info all taken on board. And yep I thought about a boomer ball and also maybe a kong wubba.

I didn't think about her tendons either, so maybe just as were doing then with light running.

We tried a kong wubba, and Dempsey just got as bored with that as with the ball!

Moo gets bored with anything apart from sticks or her frisbee, she won't even run with other dogs, the one thing though that she will chase is squirels and my god when she goes she really goes!

That's something I didn't think of - a frisbee!

(oh, and the squirrels, but casual onlookers tend to phone the rspca when they see you releasing a few squirrels for your dog to chase!)

Laughing There used to be so many where we walk but the past week there's been a severe shortage, I think she's scared them off!
