puppy making weird sound on the leash
hi guys
my puppy has been making weird sound when i walk him on a leash. i dont know how to explain the sound it's like some kind of moaning. he is doing that as he is walking along with me. he walks fine as he's exploring outside and he listens to me but he is still making that noise.
i checked the collar it's not too tight at all and i dont think it's the weather cos it's like 20 degrees outside.
i asked my fiancee if he makes the same sound with him too he said yes but he doesnt know what causes it.
maybe my puppy doesnt like walking outside and he's trying to say "mommy i don't like it here i wanna go home".

That's pretty much it right there
It takes them a while to feel confident on walks, the noises are most likely just to do with nerves. Logan took ages before he'd feel comfortable outside. It just comes with time after doing it a good few times

what can i do to help him have confidence when walking outside ?
i praise him alot when we are walking it tell him "good boy" " that's good" i also pet him. but apparently it's not working.

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
It does take some time for a baby puppy to get used to having a collar around his neck and being on a lead, plus being out in the big wide world - a whole new experience for him.
Fairy steps for now, not too far from home or too long a walk - he'll get used to it and start pulling your arms out with eagerness before long!

One point that Caryll was making above is the length of walks, you really don't want to walk far with a very young pup. Just a few minutes of on lead walks then a bit of free play time in a safe open area.
As for confidence building it just comes with time and repetition but if you bring a few nice treats along with you you can reward his progress.

Your pup is only 10wks ish ?
Just a small 10min walk is all he needs right now. A collar can feel restrictive to some dogs. Some do better on a harness.
Take it slow n steady.

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
yes he is around 10 weeks or so. i take him outside to walk a few minutes per day so he can see the outside world a bit. he has become quite a celebrity in the street, people stop to pet him (he really enjoys it) and people ask me if it's a pitbull lol.

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
Haha great pic. Mine is doing that too at the moment thankfully.
Just stick to the short walks that you are doing and his confidence will improve each time.

Ah sweet little pup.
Kuchar is my first Staff as well (and my first male dog) so I have been full of worry and questions too, but everyone here has been brilliantly helpful and supportive, so please don't worry about asking whatever questions you want because everyone will be only too pleased to help.

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
My puppy Skye isnt keen on walking too and its been a few weeks now. On a morning shes ok but tends to hop under the pram and get a ride in the basket when shes had enough. Any other time of day though she wont move. I have even tried to carry her round the corner and then put her down but she turns around and trots back home. She also wont walk with a collar, but is fine on a harness (when she decides she wants to walk) x

Haha that's brilliant, she's very clever

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
She tends to hop off just as fast as she jumps on and it can come as quite a shock when I almost trip over her!

Haha that's a great pic. A great way to keep socialising her without over exercising too
I changed the link you posted to the IMG code so it would show on the message, I hope that is ok

That is fantastic - Cottoned on to a good idea there - Don't think will be able to happen when older though

Re: puppy making weird sound on the leash
Keep going I think he will only gain in confidence - Maybe just sit and watch the world go by for a little while, if the weather is bearable and let him take it in that way
