bald help
My staffy sapphire has thinning hair on head and bald patches to back legs and front vet thinks it dermadex but refuses to treat and wont do skin scraping because shes too happy? As she loves people and is always hyper and they say they wont do scrapings unless she put under to do it. Is it really nesassery they managed to microchip? Do i take her to a diff vets? Xx

Re: bald help
I'd take her to a different vets! I've never heard such a load of rubbish - won't do a skin scrape because she's too happy! I suppose they'd rather it got worse & made her miserable before they do anything!
If she's losing fur there must be a reason. It might not be Demodex, but only a scrape will find out for sure.

Yes i think so im not putting her threw an unhappy experience being put under for a skin scrape as then she will hate going to the vet. Just because my pooch is happy go lucky and alot hyper. Xx

Re: bald help
That is ridiculous! Daisy has demodex and was very bald! If it's getting bad she may need treatment! Our vet misdiagnosed at first which is why daisy's got so bad, definitely get a second opinion.

Re: bald help
That's so retarded it's funny. Crikey what's he gonna use for the scrape ? A meat clever ?
Yep different vet needed ASAP !
When they took scrapes off Tank they took him to the treatment room, a nurse held him, it's only the top few layers of skin they scrape off. Needs to be done in a few places xx
If it is Demodex, then in addition to treatment, work on building up her immune system xx

Re: bald help
Straight to a new vet. It's a very easy thing for the vet to do for you and they shouldn't have made such a fuss of it.
Once you find the right vet it should be very straightforward

Re: bald help
Honestly a skin scrape is a simple thing, you would never have to anesthetize, very very pleased you are finding a new vets, I also would be inclined to report it. I have honestly never heard such rubbish!
Pleased to hear things are looking better Xx

Re: bald help
Logan got a sample taken before and he was fully awake and he is very hyper. When you see a different vet I'm sure there will be no problem

Re: bald help
I agree with the others. If he can't manage an ear scraping, I'd hate to think what will happen if anything serious happens.

Re: bald help
That's ridiculous. Loki was jumping all over the place when he went to the vets, but they managed to hold him still while they did his microchip without stabbing him any decent vet would be able to do that. Hope you find a new, better vet soon

Definitely, she is only young so should recover fine from the demodex (if it is that) but you need to know what your dealing with!!

Re: bald help
Daisy is going to the vets next week for a scrape, not a big deal at my vets!! They're certainly not putting her under or cutting any ears off!!
