Stig giving us a rash?
For a while now my kids have been getting rashes on their faces and back of their necks, unsure of what it was we kept an eye on them and by the next day it would go, so the other day I feel my arms itch while I'm playing with Stig and after a scratch I notice I have the same kind of rash, not the first time my arms have itched when playing with Stig but I didn't think much of it at the time.
Today I decide to spend some time obedience training and I take my jumper off, Stig pounces on me and comes in for a hug and almost instantly my arms itch, I look down and the rash is coming back.
This only happens a)when he rubs up against bare skin b)with Stig, doesn't and never has happened with any other dog, and the kids don't get it from other dogs either so I don't see how it could be an allergy, but I'm not certain. He isn't scratching, his coat looks healthy and we have bathed him in flea shampoo, but I've drawn a blank and it still happens. The rash is more a series of lumps that appear very similar to nettle stings, theydon't feel like stings but itch like mad and go down in about an hour-2hour, I have attached a pic of the lumps that come out but it might not be very clear, anyone have any ideas before I call vet/doctor in the morning?

If it looks like nettle rash it's usually an allergy weird how you are all getting it though! Could it be a reaction to something you are putting on Stig, such as his shampoo, rather than to him?

Also weird how it's only with Stig, had dogs nearly all my life and my family/friends all have dogs yet I've never had a problem with it before

I've had exactly the same thing! It happened all of a sudden, on my legs.
Now, Kuchar sleeps on and often in my bed, and hasn't had his monthly Advocate drops since January when his puppy-plan supply ran out. I know it's not fleas (believe me I have looked and looked hard) but I can't help suspecting that Kuchar picked up something that transferred its attentions to me whilst we were snuggled up all warm and cosy in bed - I'd be an easier target as I have much less hair for the beasty to get through.
Next day, all my bed linen was off and washed and so far have not had a reoccurence, although the bites still itch me
Advocate resumes next week, but I'd love (maybe hate is more accurate) to know what it was.

Re: Stig giving us a rash?
I get that too, whenever Loki's touched my skin or when he licks me. I don't really consider it an allergy though, because my skin's so messed up even the water makes it turn into a rash, but definitely the same kind of rash that I get.

My son's gf has a reaction to Rocky (makes her asthma worse) but not to Bailey, or her own dogs, or any other dog

I sometimes find that because a Staffords fur is so short it can make ya very itchy, just because it's a bit rough at times.
Have you always had this with Stig or is it recently just?

I get this with Otis as well but don't know what causes it. I would love to know.

Re: Stig giving us a rash?
Matt-it's a problem we've had/or noticed in the last 3-4 month.
Canthavethat-my daughters have chronic asthma although the doctors say they can't officially call it asthma until they're older, they have both landed in hospital twice with severe chest infections(one led to pneumonia) since Stig came along, I'm currently staying with a friend and have Stig with me and the girls have been much better, prompting me even more to get my own place sorted as I'll never give Stig up.
Also the suggestion that it may be his licking causing it, when the rash clears I'll get someone to hold him so he can't jump at me and let him lick me see if it comes back

Re: Stig giving us a rash?
I've had to teach my two to
Not lick.
They can lick my palms but that's it. Whereas the know they can go to town licking my hubby !
I too have asthma, but I passed the test for dog dander, there is no test for saliva. U also have to remember they get saliva on their coats too.
I would limit the kisses ! That's about all u can do, unless ur kids are allergic to dog dander - then u got a real prob.

Re: Stig giving us a rash?
I get the same from Dempsey, but only from sensitive areas of skin such as the lower side of my arms and face. Also only from certain areas of contact with Dempsey's body.
Antihistamines get rid of it.

Antihistamines are a god-send, I used Anthisan cream on the affected places.

Re: Stig giving us a rash?
Well I got him to play rough and grab my arm in his mouth, he often bites my arms when rough playing as I allow it but not with anyone else, he's pretty good with that rule, made very little contact with his coat but the arm he was grabbing came out in a rash again, Beth gets it on her face where he licks her and George gets it on the back of the neck as for some reason when they're playing Stig knocks him down and licks him there. My other daughter Milly doesn't get the rash and the o/h says she doesn't and never gets the itchiness neither. Like others I only get it on softer areas of skin, it wont stop me playing with him as I can wear long sleaves or just deal with the rash, I was more concerned there may be something wrong with him as I don't get it from other dogs. Will look into the cream mentioned too is it script only or can I buy it off the shelf?
