Post by Fez Wed Mar 20 2013, 18:43

Has anyone got Artificial Grass in their garden? I'm thinking of doing my garden in it but I've read a lot about the smell of dog waz ruining it, the articles I've read have been from America where the hot weather brings the smell out more but not many stories from the uk, any advice people?

I wouldn't. I can imagine it's not pleasant in the summer - you would be forever washing it !

I had thought about it at a time but went off the idea. I think it would be a lot of trouble.

We have only paving and decking in our garden. We got rid of the grass - couldn't bare the mud ! And it's far easier to clean up pee n poop on the paving ! They are trained to use a certain section x

Yes Dave and no sludgy paw prints through kitchen aswell. Really Ella! that's swayed me a little more to getting it. Surely it can't be that bad. The concrete can get a bit smelly but wash it wi some washing up liquid n it's gone, the grass has got drainage holes for water to run through it. Cheers.

This isn't something we have to worry greatly about as we only have paving slabs in our back yard. Would obviously love to have a real garden one day though with real grass, I think it would be a no from me, sorry.

Artificial grass takes a lot of upkeep tho , brushing it and adding the sand every few mths to keep it upright or it ends up flat !

I wouldn't use it - there's no way you can thoroughly clean it & the smell of urine after a while wouldn't be nice at all!!

I'd have to dig about a foot of concrete out to put enough soil down for a real lawn and like Ella says the grass will burn with the dog waz. It will need a lot of time to keep it looking good but I can't think of anything else soft enough for kids to play on that will look nice also!

All I can suggest is having the grass but fence it off somehow - add a gate etc, that way the kids can play and u Wont have to worry bout kids fallin in pee !

That's an idea. I certainly wouldn't let kids play on it if dogs have been allowed to poo/pee on it. Sad I just don't see how it could be properly cleaned.

Yeah there's an area I could fence off they could do all their main business but obviously the odd accident will happen on the fake bit but It won't be as bad as a constant use of the fake stuff!
