6 months old - weight
I've just rung the vets to get a quote for spaying my pup Moo who will be 6 months old in two weeks, the receptionist asked her weight, which is 8.5KG and sounded completely in shock that she is that small. Moo is a slim dog, as opposed to her two brothers who are quite big but now I'm slightly concerned she isn't growing properly. I haven't seen her parents either as she is a rescue pup. Do you think it could just be genetics and that she could be the runt of the litter?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: 6 months old - weight
They are all different shapes/sizes and grow at different rates. From the picture she looks in very good shape to me personally. I prefer a slimmer dog anyway

Re: 6 months old - weight
As long as she seems healthy & happy i'm sure she's fine. I weighed Katy 2wks ago & she was 13kg (she's just over 5 months)

Re: 6 months old - weight
She sounds a bit light, but rather that than fat! Very difficult to tell, though, without knowing her height & build. Do you have a sideways on pic of her?

Re: 6 months old - weight
It's hard to judge.
My girl has always been bigger than average - with a lil extra fat on her
Whereas my boy has always been super lean and small (until now!) the vets have remarked in his lean but solid build. He is filling out now he's just turned 1.
With your girl, she does sound kinda light BUT- so long as shes healthy - can't see ribs or spine... Make sure she's wormed regular and exercised then she will be fine. They go thru spurts and slows tbh !

Re: 6 months old - weight
it's hard to see from the pic you have but she looks very light on her back end ?? maybe a couple more pics would help . I think form memory Tommy would be about 12 kg at 6 months but they are all different

Re: 6 months old - weight
I think it does seem a bit light if she isn't crossed with a smaller breed. Perhaps you could pop her in the vets and ask their opinion. Does she eat well ?

Re: 6 months old - weight
My girl is 5.95kg and she is almost 4 months, whereas her sister is about 1.5kg heavier. They all grow differently. As has been said before I would pop her to the vets just to put your mind at rest

Re: 6 months old - weight
I agree she does look a little light in the back end but it could just be the angle of the photo.. They do all grow at different rates as already said..

Re: 6 months old - weight
Looking forward to the pictures. She might be slightely light but as Caryll said it's better that than her being over weight. Logan is heavier than the standard but he is in no way fat, he is generally just a bit bigger overall. As long as she's fit/happy and eating well

Re: 6 months old - weight
Sorry for not replying yesterday. I took Moo to the vets earlier on to check her weight. She weighed 9.5kg so my indoor scales are not very accurate, the vet also took a quick look and said she seems a healthy dog and that she has a small frame. She has put my mind at ease anyway. Thanks for the replies.

Re: 6 months old - weight
Got Alfie weighed yesterday at the vets during his monthly check up. He is almost 10kg and is 5 months old. The vet was very happy with his weight and size and said judging by his frame he will be a nice stocky boy hitting around 17-18 kg by the time he is an adult.

Re: 6 months old - weight
I took Honey to get de-sexed and was surprised that she is 13kg! She went through a really strange stage- she was tall, skinny and very out of proportion. Big head, big paws, skinny legs.
But, as the weeks have gone by she is becoming more solid. The vet says she is in good shape and a good weight but she may be a big girl. The story of my life ha ha ha
