Well the summer months approacheth, and I'm starting to think of Lucy's pink nose, ears and around her eyes. It's been mentioned somewhere that these areas can burn easily in the sun when they're as pink as Lucy's, so I was wondering if any of you can recommend any non toxic, dog compatible sun creme? I've heard the human stuff can be poisonous to pooches, and seen a few doggy specific ones, just wondering which is best? I've never had this problem before, this is my first pink-afflicted dog...

Your vet should be able to recommend one. You need to avoid sunscreens with zinc oxide in them, which most human-designed sunscreens have, as those are toxic to dogs. Some people use baby sunscreens, which sometimes don't have zinc oxide.

Thanks. She's going to the vet for a post-op check tomorrow, so I'll ask then.

Yes ask your vet they will know what to recommend, Rocky is mostly black so not an issue I have come across.

I've never even thought about that Paul. I've never had a dog of that colour.

That's really good thinking fella Smile

Surprisingly the vet didn't know much about dog specific creme, and said to use kids stuff. I think I'll find some proper dog stuff online, I don't want Lucy licking it from her nose and getting poisoned....

Head up to your local pet shop Paul. Chances are they'll have it there and someone will most likely know about it.

Kiddies one is probably ok too though. As long as it's zinc free.

Ella is sun sensitive , we took her to France and used a Sensitive skin sun cream, Boots, Soltan i think? she was fine and it worked a treat. Always best to try a little bit as a tester first, maybe on the tip of the ear. Smile

From what I understand so far, the majority of the kids ones are ok for the skin, but the problem remains with Lucys pink nose which she'll lick, so some which are fine on the skin may still prove harmful if ingested.

I've found this online, looks ok, I've emailed them asking if it's safe if licked...

It's available direct or a bit cheaper on Amazon...

I was looking at that one myself Paul. I think it would be fairly safe if it is made for pets. Pity your vet couldn't help a bit more.
