An irritating conversation
So last night, i saw the guy who introduced me to my very first staffy about 23 years ago. At that time he had 2 brindle's, M+F. i enjoyed playing with these short, friendly snorting dogs that just let me manhandle them when i was 5 lol.
So i mentioned to him yesterday that i got myself a staffy in December for Christmas. i knew he had a negative weird "im always right" attitude. he asked if i got a female, i said yes, but she is getting fixed and i dont want to breed her, i saw where the convo was heading. then he asked what colour i got, when i said blue he flipped and got very negative that blues are highly undesirable and not accepted in the standard blah blah BLAH. so i ignored all that. i told him i had her in training and socialization and that she was a gem and showed him a video of her playing with the dachshund puppy.
heres where it gets good....
he says, "im going to give you some free advice.... when she gets to be about 1 year, she will rip that dachshunds throat out.... keep them separated, i know what im talking about because i my staffys tattooed on my back" (man i cant make this stuff up ) he told me that he went on to get in addition to the staffys, 2 Presa Canarios M+F. and that the female staffy shredded the presa canario male one day.
then i remembered how he kept his dogs, each chained in corner of the yard apart from each other, no socialization, no mingling, no exercise. that was a ticking time bomb, especially with the 2 PC's.
we parted ways, all of his epic advice went in one ear and out the other.
conclusion - he has rocks in his head.

Over here blue is accepted in the standard, not sure about in Bermuda, but I think he's maybe wrong.
He is 100% wrong about the automatic aggression at 1 year lol. Dunno where he gets that. And the comment about his silly tattoo is just awful

As you said, keeping dogs unsocialised like that, no wonder that happened. I hate when people think they know it all no-one's perfect, but someone who thinks keeping their dogs separate from all other dogs giving advice is stupid. Least you know not to listen to it . There was a trainer in my puppy training classes who said similar, but not about Staffs, just that letting them play with other dogs is like teaching them to fight and it makes them more likely to do so

Re: An irritating conversation
These people are so irritating. I worked with one who knew everything about everything but was really quite a sad lonely person because of her know all attitude. Never had a good word to say about anyone.
Best just to avoid these people as they won't accept any evidence to the contrary.

I think you handled that in a very calming way! I sure wouldn't have some people are so ignorant these days jeez. I do like PC's though but turning aggressive at 1 ins't the case for either breed, silly man
